Not sure this is the right ppace to post this. but what motivates you to invest a significant amount of time helping people on this site? Do you enjoy it? Moral obligation? Intellectually stimulating?

Whatever the reason is, I do find it impressive and admirable how many of the users here have countless posts which most likely have to do with trying to help fellow members.
Thanks for this!

Hello Iliovar. Great question. I feel a need and desire to connect with others...sometimes that feels lacking in the non-PC world. Supporting others feels good....like making a contribution.

Why did you join PC, Iliovar? Do you feel comfortable sharing?

I guess I've got nothing left to do, and it kinda feels good to help other people, giving solutions and improving yourself at the same time.

because I suffer grately and sadly, I know what it's like not to be helped by real humans (not this site, I mean face to face)

so I guess partly because I know what it's like to be ignored and want to change that for others, partly because people help me and it's just good to help them in return, and partly to give myself some kind of purpose in life

honestly away from here I may as well not exist

this site is the only thing keeping me going

Helping others comes natural to me. I am in a helping profession my entire adult life so it’s something I just do. When I first joined PC I neeeded help with something, and I received it in emotional support chat and in PMs with one member. Since then I have been helping others on here. I rarely post my own threads. Sometimes in Poobah forum but even that infrequent.

So I try to help others to live happier lives, sometimes I succeed and sometimes not, but I keep trying.

When I came to PC in 2004 I was a mess & was in the middle of dealing with a trauma & my mom was dying of cancer & I was in a bad long time marriage.

A few years later I left & moved across the country to a small farm I bought after my mom died. Driving a medium size moving truck 2100 miles across the US alone with my dog Leo, it was amazing to have the people I had met on PC to check in with every night when I stopped at a motel. Having that connection really helped me.

Over the last 12 years I have found great therapy & awesome friends IRL & have found peace in my life. It has been a long 12 years of healing but something that if sharing what I have learned can help others here who have helped me so much then sharing & helping others gives meaning & purpose to what I have learned by the not so good experiences I have gone through.

I love to help others who are hurting and to let them know they are not alone. I suffer allot and it helps me to come on here and relate to others, i feel connected to others here. I love the support that pc gives and there are so many people that understand that we all struggle and there is no comparison here.

I figured I was helping myself, not them.

It's both because I wish to help others and also because helping others in some way makes me feel more engaged and part of a community. To be frank, I wish I could do more. There are so many posts I read that I want to say something, but I either don't have the mental energy for it, or I feel I'll say something stupid. But I do the best I can for now.
