Quick! Someone call PETA! We have GOT TO BE SURE!!!

I read this article in the newspaper this morning. Here it is, verbatum:

WORRIES OVER UNHAPPY TOILET WORMS FLUSHED AWAY

Wellington, N.Z. / The New Zealand inventor of a worm-driven composting toilet has flushed away concerns from bureaucrats that the system traumatized the wriggly creatures.

Coll Bell, who built the "wormorator" as an alternative to septic tanks, said an official ordered an expert's report on the toilet's mental impact on tiger worms.

"She felt that the worms were being unfairly treated, being expected to deal with human feces, and that it could affect them in a psychological way," Bell told a local newspaper.

A vermiculture consultant found the worms in excellent health and breeding happily.

----------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, I really wish I was joking...

Hey, do you think we could get Pamela Anderson to roll around on top of these worms for a photo op??? Oh, wait! Didn't she get kicked out of PETA?

I swear, it is becoming more and more obvious that WE are the normals - it's the rest of the world that has gone crazy! I think it's time we start putting Prozac in our water system instead of flouride!
Way Over The Top - Even For Pet Lovers?

Obviously, they are doing a better job than we are...

Am I the only one who finds this article (or rather, what prompted it) utterly ridiculous???

Tough crowd here!

No, worrying about the emotional life of worms (other than the human variety :-) is a bit over the top, I agree! I like the background, that tiger worms have been working "for" us for a long time in the composting business. That someone was worried about their emotional state seems similar to me to someone wanting to "Free the fruit flies!" from a genetics lab or something :-)
