I’m in a rut. All I do is work 11pm to 9am 4 days a week. Then I go home and sleep 5 to 6 hours. When I wake I eat dinner or breakfast depending on how you look at it. Then off to work and the cycle repeats. On my days off all I do is sleep and chill. I don’t do anything. I don’t go out, I don’t tinker in my shop, nothing. All I do is wake up stuff my face and sleep. This is ridiculous, I need to get active. I’ve stopped working out, my diet is terrible, and my sleep is all messed up.
I have to stay at this job. It’s a good job, my coworkers are nice, and the pay is good. It’s just the hours really. There is talk about day time shifts but that won’t happen for months. I don’t know if I should come home, get active, then sleep. Or come home , sleep, then get active. I feel like either way I won’t be able to get more than five or six hours of sleep due to outside work responsibilities. So frustrated |

The best thing you can do it start. Nothing will turn into a habit if you don't even start. Tomorrow, as soon as you wake up, put on your running shoes. Go out and do intervals of walking and fast walking for 15 minutes. Do this for a week.
No excuses. No procrastination. See how you feel after a week. I bet you anything, you'll feel proud of yourself, energetic and confident. |

Many years ago I worked the night shift. I've always been kind-of a night person anyway. So I liked it. It's quiet (mostly.) All the bosses are gone. But it does do a number on one's sleep patterns to say nothing of social interactions. Fortunately when I was doing it I was still young. So I could take it. I doubt I could have continued on with it for an extended period of time. Anyway best wishes on figuring this out. Hope those day hours come through for you.

Hi Stuck1nHead, that sounds tough. Do you think lack of sunlight is making your energy lower? I'm glad you like your job and the people who you work with. Definite plus. I might suggest, that if you really want to work a different shift, during the day, even though its a few months away, make sure your supervisors know your preference.
As far as when to get active goes, try experimenting. I've heard its better to exercise on waking and not to exercise close to bedtime because it will disrupt sleep. But everyone is different. I should probably ask...what do you mean when you say "I need to get active"? Do you mean exercise? Or do you mean just doing more and living the life you want to live? What do you enjoy doing? What brings you pleasure? Maybe start there, on a small scale. I wish you the best. |

Yes, just start. Even when you don’t feel like it. Act like it’s your job. Act like your life depends on it. It kind of does. After a short while, it will get easy most days because you will feel physically better and you will be propelled naturally by the pride you feel in yourself.!
