Like I said in my hurricane season thread, I'm working hard not to freak out. I have my supplies. Tomorrow I'll take care of things outside. Physically I'm prepared. Emotionally I'm coming apart at the seams.

Trav, the storm is still so far out they aren't sure where it will hit. I'm kind of in the middle of the state, so won't take a direct hit when it makes landfall. On the other hand this part of the state seems to be a hurricane magnet.

As our Governor has said, since it now looks like it won't arrive until Sunday--the course could change slightly but right now Palm Beach and the areas on the coast near that area look like they are in the most severe danger. I will definitely cross my fingers and pray for the folks in the direct path (those on the coast where the storm makes landfall) and in major flood zones.

Though I am in Florida--I am likely not in its direct path and our house is not in a place that floods (good drainage-we are only in an evacuation zone because our property is an "island" in a minor flood zone--as in the streets we use to exit our property could become temporarily flooded). There is a small chance I could lose electricity for a while (have many times in the past including 5 days once and about 3 days on three other occassions) but that is minor compared to what people in the storm's path and serious flood zones endure.

Hugs to all who are worried. If you don't have the funds to stock up in case of a power/clean water outage--most Florida cities do open shelters when power goes out or is likely to go out or whenever evacuations are ordered in your city. We did evacuate twice when living in another Florida city (they gave us 3 meals a day free) though if you have a pet, most towns only have one shelter for that and obviously, that is hard--you might need a pet cage to use those services which makes it very hard if you have pets and your property is impacted so more prayers to all the pets in Florida in flood zones and in the storm's path.

At least I don't have to worry about flooding. I'm on the central ridge that runs down the center of the state and my property is at the top of a hill. If my place floods most of the state would be under water. Now, the roads to where I am are another matter. The headwaters of a river go under a couple of bridges near me. The roads can flood if we have days of sustained rain. If those roads flood it means about a 30 mile detour to come in a back way.

It looks like Florida might dodge the worst of Dorian. On the other hand it made a jog to the west last night. I'm staying alert just in case.

Sending positive energy to folks in GA and the Carolinas.

Holy crap! I just saw Dorian is a Cat 5! Still slow moving, which will increase the damage. The poor Bahamas are about to get hit. Heaven help them.

Some places are being evacuated in Florida. So inconvenient. So much work (I've done it and tore up my house cramming things I didn't want to part with in my vehicle) but necessary if you are in a place that is not safe.

Others (in other states too) still have to keep an eye on this monster storm.

The pictures from the Bahamas make me want to throw up. I cannot imagine what that must feel like in person. Omg, those poor people! To go from paradise to total destruction. Some of the islands are completely under water.

My heart goes out to the poor people in the Bahamas. I know how frightening riding out the 2004 storms was here. And that only lasted hours. Can't imagine being pummeled for a whole day. Heaven help the people there.

Yes, that has to be traumatizing, not to mention the impact on their hearing.

I'm thinking it will be CAT 1 or 2 by the time it reaches the NC coast, so I think we'll be okay. But we are bringing some outside things inside.

My cousin and his girlfriend live in Orlando and we were all on vacation in Michigan this weekend and they were getting frustrated with the airport opening and closing multiple times. My cousin had to start a new job on Tuesday. Luckily his boss was really understanding and said “you get here when you get here.”

On the news I saw a lady struggle in waist high water holding onto 2 dogs. It made me sick to my stomach. I hope all 3 are ok.

I googled it and the lady and her 3 dogs, and her husband and son got to dry land. The husband was even able to go back to the house to grab a few things. I’m glad they are ok I was really worried about them.

My part of NC is now getting beaten up. We live a bit inland now, but used to live in Morehead City.

I just am concerned about the flooding. We are now in a motel in western NC. One time before when we evacuated, we were not able to get back to our city because the water had surrounded it, and it was like an island. I don't think Dorian is quite as bad, but you never know...

At least we have neighbors and friends who can tend to our house and pets, but I think my husband only bought a few days' medicine with him. (I always bring all my bottles.)

We're planning to have fun at the Autumn at OZ Festival tomorrow. Worrying doesn't accomplish anything good. But please keep eastern NC in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks.

I feel so sad for the Bahamas. I hope the US will be decent enough to send them all the aid they can along with our states that are damaged. (That does not include Alabama. )
