Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day (AKA Columbus Day)!

Here's a CNN article that discusses the change in some jurisdictions: Indigenous Peoples' Day: These are the states and cities that have ditched Columbus Day - CNN

Not everyone celebrates this day, so don't feel obligated to.

Thank you for posting this. I receive my medical care from an Indian (Native) clinic. I am not native, but I feel so comfortable there. I have an appointment today; they do not recognize Columbus day, at all. Thankfully.

Happy Indigenous People's Day!

One time at work we had a binder with special instructions for bank holidays, and lets just say i was the only "lefty" there. Anyway, i changed the tab for columbus day to indigent peoples day. I think it wasnt until the next year that anybody said anything, so THATS on them!

@BethRags

That sounds like a great medical care facility! I hope you have a good appointment today. I can totally understand why they don't celebrate Columbus Day. I think a few states and towns changed it to Indigenous People's Day to acknowledge the historical pains and to respect their culture and align it with our current laws that respect the Natives here in the U.S. One day, I'm hoping to read more history about that since I didn't pay much attention 30 or more years ago when I was in high school. The things I wish I had learned then but didn't - I now want to learn in my mid-40s.

@unaluna

I just found out today that they changed the name in some states and towns - and rightfully so! I wish I were a "lefty"; that is so cool that you are!

It's awesome that you changed the name in the binder! I'm not sure why people would be upset with the change - maybe they like tradition or something, or maybe it is more political - but I like the new name. Yes, it is on them for not speaking up. Glad you changed it!

Regarding changes, however, I am still sad that Pluto is no longer a planet. I accept science, but it was a hard change for me to make. Tradition gets the best of us sometimes.
