I was just wondering if anyone wanted to start a thread where we all come together to share our thoughts, our thanks, and otherwise during the Thanksgiving weekend. I'm posting this early so that we can prepare for such a "PC Thanksgiving Party."

Anyone can start the thread, as this is just a question for now.

There are many of us here (myself included) who are alone for the holidays, or are feeling alone (even though they are with other people). Perhaps we can throw a PC Thanksgiving party to have a place for us lonely folks and friends of the lonely to gather together to offer thanks and celebration, comfort and support, and anything fun or newsworthy (within the guidelines of PC, of course). Maybe we can share our favorite holiday movies, or offer support to someone who is struggling with life adjustments (e.g., losses, recent relocation, spending time away from loved ones, not having family, recent breakups, etc.).

Because not everyone will be online at the same time, a thread that is available for anyone and everyone would serve the most. We could, however, break out into chat sessions as well, but not everyone is comfy with chats or has PMs/messaging capabilities. Thus, a thread for everyone to go to might be fun - even for those who are away for Thanksgiving but want to chime in for a quick hello or an after-Thanksgiving read.

What do you all think?

It's a PC Thanksgiving Party, so it's up to us PC members to consider it as a collective effort.

List your ideas in the comments below!

Happy Thanksgiving Prep, everybody!

Lilly, we've done this the last couple of years. It was fun. Thanks for suggesting it!

I have the first contribution for dinner. I bought a turkey last night (could not pass up the incredibly good price!). It's a magic turkey so it will produce all the meat we want, including multiple wings, thighs and legs. It will be perfectly roasted.🍗

I'll bring something vegetarian for our members who don't eat meat, fowl, or fish.

I'll bring the cranberry sauce (made fresh), the candied yams (made fresh), and the notorious fruitcake (from a bakery)*. --The sweet stuff.

No one has to eat the fruitcake, btw. It could just look like a pretty garnish. (I, however, would probably eat the fruitcake).

I am a Brit living in England so have no experience of Thanksgiving and am probably on a weird timeline compared to y'all but I would like to contribute some homemade pumpkin pie because it's the only American thing I can make!

@Little Cat

IMHO, while Thanksgiving does represent former British citizens breaking free from religious persecution to cross the ocean to start new lives breaking bread and the fruits of their harvest with friendly Indians who were there first, I am curious about what native traditional dish you would take to a pot luck or celebration in your country.

If you have any ideas that we can do online for that day, we could sure use them.

Also, we're now posting about bringing (pretend) dishes to the party. Hee hee. (I'm not a cook, but I'll pretend to be for this venue.) Do you have any dishes you'd like to bring to the party?

My parents emigrated to England after the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 and all my family are Hungarian. So I see myself as British rather than English. What with Brexit, I now have dual nationality and plan to return in a few years.

So what I'd bring to a Thanksgiving would be sausage like gyulai with paprika and zsumle rolls or for cooked food, I'd make gulyas in a big bograc (cauldron over a fire) washed down with peach palinka.

What actual English people might bring would probably be completely different, so I'll wait til they post!

That all sounds wonderful! Except the meat parts; I gave up meat, fish and chicken years ago. And I found out that I miss fried chicken more than I ever missed any alcohol, lol

Paprika!! I can't remember what it tastes like, but I am familiar with it. What does it taste like? Would it be easy to start cooking with?

Great idea Lilly! I'm in. It will most likely just be me and my parents for Thanksgiving so the extra company would be nice.

@HappyCrafter I do eat some meat but I don't like the idea of eating animals on holidays. So I'll bring some tofu to this gathering if you want some.

Also I'll bring some vegetables for anyone who doesn't like tofu.

@88Butterfly88

Is it ok to use the mention for you?

Talk to me about tofu, please. How do you fix it? Did it take you long to adjust to it?

If I remember what it looks like, it is weird looking, but I am willing to be adventurous and try new things. I do love to experiment!

Sorry, I wasn't clear. In the past we've posted about what we are going to bring to eat, just like now. Then on the actual day we pop in and post about whatever.

Thanks again for starting this thread.

Thank you! That makes sense! I had no idea where this all was headed, and what the actual Thanksgiving Day would look like online, but it's good to know what the tradition is. Yay!

I'm laughing because I do have a wild imagination, which makes me laugh at myself and my imagination. I daydream and dissociate easily, so sometimes I crack myself up with impossible ideas or fantasies. It helps me to deal with the pain of reality sometimes.

I suppose I'm avoiding the feelings affiliated with loneliness. I enjoy being alone, and I relax, watch movies, cook, clean, organize, and go online now to keep myself occupied. But the holidays are painful for me. Sometimes fantasizing about things gets me to laugh, even though it's totally not based in reality.

Then again, the dishes I listed might be doable for me to actually make on my own (or even share with neighbors). Hee hee. I'm also finding the dishes others speak about really yummy. I can plan in my head for next year and see what I can do to donate some dishes to the homeless or to other veterans in need. It will take me a year to plan though, so the ideas on this thread are awesome.

PS: I'm sorry if someone else normally starts the Thanksgiving thread. I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes. If someone else wants to start a new thread, I'm totally okay with that, too. I just posed this question here to see what you all do, and I'm glad you actually do something every year for Thanksgiving (etc.?). That's awesome!

Yes, the mention is fine.

I usually stir fry it. I didn't take too long to adjust to it but some people say it has a weird texture. If you freeze it before you cook it and then defrost it to cook the texture becomes more like chicken.
