I did a 15 minute presentation today, to my psych hospital's board of Trustees on Concurrent Disorders. I'm on an advisory committee to the board, and on that committee's steering committee which is how I got picked to do it.
I'd rehearsed it a lot with a timer, so I was bang on in my timing, and I managed to do it without notes. The board really got engaged, and kept me for an additional 15 minutes of questions and discussions, which according to the staff person who was with me, has never happened before. So they clearly liked it. I feel really good, and as soon as I started talking, my nerves stopped, and I just had fun doing it. I'm really happy with how it went. splitimage

Thank you all. I got more great feedback yesterday. We had a meeting of the full constituency council, and all the board members that attended, came up to me to tell me I'd done great and that they'd really enjoyed the presentation.
Then one of the hospital's execs who had been present asked if she could share my presentation with the hospital's addictions department, and if they wanted to speak with me, would I be willing to. I said of course. So who knows, I might have more opportunity to get involved. I'm still feeling really pumped. splitimage

Wow.....just read this. What a wonderful job you did. You have to REALLY KNOW YOUR TOPIC to do it without notes.....comes from thorough KNOWLEDGE.
So proud of you & what an honor that they continued the discussion after your presentation. It does sound like very possible future presentations & chances for discussions. Nice to impress the execs. What an exciting experience with such a wonderful outcome. (Helps build self-confidence too)
