I think I've mentioned I work with at risk kids. I'm pretty good at professional self care, but the last week was tough. Kids I work with disclosing abuse. A kid afraid of what his father is going to do when he gets out of prison because of things he's done in the past.
My coworkers and I talk about how the outside world has no concept of what these kids face and wouldn't believe us if we could tell them. Here at PC y'all get it because you've lived it. I saw one of the kids from last week again today. He disclosed more. No child should be subjected to the things this poor kid has seen/been through. He blames himself that children's services is involved with the family. I keep stressing to him that what he did took courage. Telling him he is brave and strong.
Once again, I am drained. |
