I have had it with smart phones, smart tv's and computers being in the way of important things. When I am dong someone's meds/making their breakfast/coffee and inquiring about what they need me to do..... I don't feel I should have to compete with a stupid phone. My husband, my older friend that I care for, people at work that I HAVE to question about WORK..... I've about had it. If you are on a bus, max train, or alone in your house/car, etc....that's fine. But when the world is going on around you and your attention is needed, put that CRAP away! The world won't end if you don't answer a meme with "LOL".

My phone keeps wanting me to log in so I can update my settings. Like what settings? The cloud? So everyone in my family can see what I’m googling? I don’t think so. But the dumb message telling me to update my ID settings pops up sometimes 3 times a minute. It’s ridiculous. With newer TVs it’s not a problem but with older TVs you need 3 remotes to get to Hulu. Dumb.

I just saw a commercial on TV for a fancy faucet. The guy is holding a bowl under it with his left hand and reaching across to another counter with his right hand to do something else, all stretched out and he says basically into the air: Deliver 150 milliliters of water now."
And the faucet turns on and quickly shoots out a little water. Just sayin'. __________________ When I was a kid, my parents moved a lot, but I always found them--Rodney Dangerfield |

I'm torn with these electronic devices because I really do need them: eg. my job, such as a SatPhone or, when in an area where internet is difficult to access then I'll use my ISatHub. Both of these exotic devices are by Inmarsat, if anyone is interested.
I have an iPhone 11 Pro, but don't feel I have to be chained to it, unless receiving an emergency call from family members during my working hours. One useful addition is using a VPN for my laptop and phone. We all have this as it's essential for cybersecurity, especially in potentially risky WiFi areas, or for when we have to do financial transactions online. Frankly, for my family and I there is no place in the bedroom for electronics. My daughter and her best friend is good with this; they switch off their phones and iPads before bedtime. She's always done this, and I am pleased and relieved because I know I don't need to ask her. If daughter and friend, or me and my gf ever need to use the 'Cloud, then we can make our appropriate settings during daylight hours. To continue into evening just ruins our enjoyment of tv or radio. We live our lives like this because when I was younger, paid the price of late night messing around. Now, I shut off my phone and other devices without second thought. Long ago I told her that blue light emanating off our smartphones and tablets will mess with our sleep causing untold amounts of insomnia, and we cannot claw back our sleep because blue light suppresses melatonin, so our minds never get to shut down. And this is why all of us stop using our devices 2 hours before bedtime. Turn your phones off. Otherwise you'll get problems sleeping. Prolonged insomnia causes depression, anxiety and in some cases weight gain. Glad I won't be working tomorrow. G'night! __________________ |

It annoys me when Apple hardwire their batteries into their iPads. When they deplete, we have to buy a new iPad. Next thing will be them messing around with cables. Can imagine all the cable manufacturers going wild having to change to a newly spec'd Apple cable, and some might even go bankrupt.

I have a love / hate relationship with technology. It tends more towards the hate side though.

I own a cell phone for car emergencies and to very occasionally text my sister. My phone is not connected to the internet. My husband doesn't own a cell phone at all. I will not compete with an electronic device, ever, under any circumstances, unless it's a true emergency.
If I'm with someone who finds their cell phone more interesting than I am, I remove myself from the situation so the two of them can be alone together. I am absolutely sure that the majority of stress in society is due to the public use of electronic devices in favor of IRL communication. Interestingly, my son and daughter-in-law live in San Francisco and both work in the tech industry. Whenever we're together they turn their phones off and put them away. I so appreciate their considerate behavior. __________________ |

My biggest angst has been the transition from Windows 7 (Home Premium) to Windows 10 Professional, and what I'm having to learn with this software. What I miss most of all have been those lovely flash games that were plentiful on '7. On this machine they just don't work. It really sucks.
Another grouse is why do Londoners have to bellow into their cell phones? Why not attach an earpiece and turn up the volume? And the next time a pedestrian pushes into me not looking where he's going, he'll get an earful. Chelsea twats. |

Oh, they do the same thing here. Bellowing into their cell phones seems especially prevalent in the grocery store. __________________ |

Husband and I have both resisted, to varying degrees, the siren's call of becoming 'completely up-to-date gadget/ tech nerds'. The reason is, we will always prefer face-to-face conversations to virtual ones.
Sometimes, it is just too overwhelming, and unusable. The phone I was urged to take as part of an upgrade is just too much phone for me---I'll never use 3/4 of what one can do with it. I rarely text. We see so many people on their phones in cars or walking, looking down and either talking or texting---NOT paying attention to what could be right in front of them. The worst is when people are doing it in parking lots AND driving too fast. Tonight people were spotted in the SuperBowl audience, staring at their phones. $3,500 for a seat, and you're looking at your phone?! I don't share people's affection for these toys, most of them. Having the computer has greatly assisted me with my depression, multiple health concerns, and helped me make friends---but then I'd much rather take things then to another level, which is to, '...in real life'. Friendships, especially. At home, TV is off when no one's watching it. We drop everything we're doing when a visitor comes by, whether task is electronic or otherwise. People come first! I hope society can handle alla this, as we continue to be bombarded with it. His new funny mantra is, "PUT DOWN YOUR PHONE!". It works for so many situations.
