Walt Disney World (in Florida) will close through the end of the month. Disneyland (in California) has closed, too, in addition to other Disney parks around the world.

Disney World will still pay its cast members during the closure. And extend ticket durations and is giving refunds to guests.

Update on Walt Disney World Resort Operations | Walt Disney World Resort

Coronavirus closes Disney as Orlando park hopes to prevent spread

I had been wondering about this as Disney Parks gather many thousands of guests every day. (Walt Disney World doesn’t release official attendance numbers. Other parks in cooler climates, like Cedar Point in Ohio, are not open this time of year.)

This is only the second time in history that Walt Disney World has closed. The first was September 11, 2001.

(My mom and step-dad just got home from a month at Walt Disney World, today.)

this is shocking to hear

disney never close their parks

I guess it makes sense though, a big place like a theme park is a goodp lace to spread a virus

so many people in such a small space (especially while they are waiting for rides)

Yeah, it makes sense.

Local stuff by me is shutting down too... the schools (of course), the aquarium, the libraries, and I just saw a note that the court system is shutting down for 30 days. No trials, no jury duty in my county, for 30 days.

I think it's smart - try to get people to stay away from each other and slow down the spread.

But, it's also freaking me out a bit. Just a little.

Its also freaking me out. I'll say again: Disney NEVER closes except for 9/11 and has never closed for as long as is proposed. It is smart to not have all those thousands of people infecting each other and then spreading back across the globe.
