Thanks for the replies, I downloaded a game for free called rocket league. It's pretty good once you get the hang of it.

Spent all weekend on Stardew Valley, set up 2 different farms to play 2 different storylines. Despite the quite basic old SNES style graphics it is a good game. I have played more 'photo-realistic' games in the past and even bought them for the stunning graphics but the storyline was boring or the gameplay didn't really keep me going back.

There is actually kind a bit of depth in the characters in Stardew Valley and their dialogues and behaviours change as you befriend them and/or marry them.

Cos of the older style graphics and me having had a Super Nintendo when I was young and remembering spending hours on it, it's felt like a real trip down memory lane this weekend and I really enjoyed it

I also enjoyed Links Awakening and at first I didn't think I would after being spoilt (graphically) with BOTW!

What do you think is most important to you? do you go for the games with best graphics (most real-life looking) ... 3D but cutesy/cartoony.. or 'old-skool' style like Stardew Valley 2D top down??

I'm glad you're enjoying it, it's really good and has a lot of gameplay

I haven't played Link's Awakening yet but it looks good

I tend to prefer 3D but cutesy/cartoony in general. Like games such as Animal Crossing, Story of Seasons, Rune Factory, Luigi's Mansion, Pokémon, etc. I think for some games though it's nice to have the most real-looking, like for games like Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption. I like the old-skool style like Stardew Valley too, it really just depends on the game. I tend to like the Stardew Valley/old-skool style for games like Graveyard Keeper, and Littlewood, I think it fits them well. I think all 3 styles can be good depending on what the game is

You may be interested in the game being developed by the developer of Stardew Valley, it's called Haunted Choclolatier, it's going to be awhile before it comes out though, it's similar in style to Stardew Valley.

Haunted Chocolatier Release Date - Everything We Know | GameWatcher

You might also like the game Graveyard Keeper, it's like Stardew Valley with similar graphics but you're running a graveyard instead of a farm, it's actually a lot of fun lol

You might also like LittleWood, it's a fun relaxing/peaceful RPG with old-skool graphics, it's really cute

OMG! a game about Chocolate!!!! now wouldn't it be good if you could send off for all the chocolates you made in game to be delivered as real chocolate to your door!!!

I do think the 2D/2.5D is good for handheld play on the switch cos you don't really have to worry that you're missing seeing something further away. And it's generally not so taxing that you need to follow step by step instructions and be able to see it better on a bigger screen.

Animal Crossing was good for handheld play where some other games with the then tiny menu's are difficult on handheld, unless you have exceptional eyesight!

I do like that though I can take it off docked and continue to play in handheld in bed whilst watching TV at night.

Games like BOTW though you can't really appreciate fully in handheld mode, but dock it to a 4K TV and you're like WOW!!!

Ring Fit Adventure also really only works docked for exercising in front of the TV.

Spirit of the North is stunning visually when played docked you play a fox running through the mountains etc in snow and its gorgeous, but the game gets tricky quite quickly cos of the platforming element (for me anyway with dyspraxia) and I got bored cos it was taking me so long to get past one bit due to my co-ordination challenges...so it ends up more stressful than relaxing for me!

The combat elements on the 2D games are much easier as you just bash your button to wave your little sword at them...lol!

Though I'm really struggling to time the button presses in the fishing game (SDV) and haven't managed to catch anything yet!

well done!!

In SDV I have 2 games on the go

one my character is based on my dad finding my mum (Penny) and marrying her. I've got them to 9 hearts, given her the bouquet. The kitchen is done but I don't know if the guy on the beach is there in winter cos it snows rather than rains (to get the pendant from that I need).

The farm is the 4 corners farm and I'm setting it up as a Dairy Farm.

The other game I'm playing as myself in Forest Farm and the farm is more like a 'Duck Rescue' cos of all the ponds on that farm! I've got chickens too and will make mayo on that one.

I may get goats too to get milk and cheese for money making..or may put the goats on the Dairy Farm and do cloth/textiles on the Forest Farm and get the mill.

Also doing tea saplings on the FF, they will be going in the greenhouse when I get to the part of the game where that gets fixed. hopefully before next winter I'm in the first winter on both games!

I'm a bit nervous about buying games online and downloading from them..I've had my bank account hacked twice and its a nightmare.

Even downloading a free game I'd be thinking is there something in the download that would allow them to retain my bank details, if I then go back and purchase one. Maybe I'm just paranoid!!!

It's a shame cos I would loved the BOTW DLC's and Ocarina of Time.

The physical version of The Witcher 3: Complete Edition just got a discount so I went ahead with that instead of the digital version. Should be here sometime next week

I ended up cancelling my order and buying the digital version because between the two the eShop version was a better deal

It's a fantasy series about a mutated monster hunter

It's also has a series on Netflix called The Witcher, the show is really good
