I got laid off from work last week due to COVID and financial strains within my company -- it took me a few days to adjust, but now I am very pleased to say that I am feeling sooooooooo much happier!!!!! It was a very toxic work environment, so I am so much better off. And I see that.

My happiness right now extends to my vastly improved home life, my expanding social circle, my newly budding friendships, my oldest and dearest friends who have been there for me through thick and thin, and my life overall.

I have been through SO many challenges and periods of misery throughout my life. So on this day I wish to celebrate the practically spiritual experience of feeling total inner peace, contentment, and sheer joy.

These kinds of moments make you nearly forget all the bad moments or negative experiences in your life. All that was negative dissipates, the sky clears and the sun shines brightly again.

I feel like the sun is shining right in my backyard and is beaming at me, smiling.

And I smile back.

I also want to thank EVERYONE for all your support -- I am MOST grateful.

I am happy!

Each day, I'm going to find something to be grateful and happy about.

I was so unhappy for the last two years because of that job, but now that I am free, I want to embrace this new phase of my life, learn from my past mistakes and lessons, and move onwards and upwards.

There's SO much to be grateful for, when you really think about it. There's always someone who is suffering more than you, and there's always people who have less than you. People suffering more or who have less may still smile at the world though, and may still find reasons to be grateful. I'm even grateful for the hard lessons I've had to learn. They were a part of my growth, and they were necessary.

Gratitude is what brings inner happiness, in my honest opinion. And happiness is an inside job. Yet it's easy enough to allow negative or undesirable circumstances to rob of us of our happiness. I struggled with that over the last two years. No more.

And next go around, I want to do better. Consistent striving for self improvement also leads to greater happiness, I do believe. All we can do is pick ourselves up again, dust ourselves off, accept where we are in life and move forward with our heads held high.

It sounds like the weight of the world is off your shoulders, Hope!

As badly as covid is affecting many people, there are those who are benefiting at this time. My husband and i have owned an online business for almost 12 years; the business does well enough normally. Since covid (SIP and shut-down, I guess) our business is doing even better. I feel bad that it had to be the pandemic that has caused business to flourish, but that's just the way it happened.

Thanks! A HUGE weight has been lifted!!! I cannot tell you how FREEING it is for me right now. I was DYING of misery at work. It was that toxic.

I had clients who were actually doing better with online than they had seen previously, so there are some who are benefitting from COVID.

I am so glad to hear your business is flourishing instead of the opposite!!!!

I'm glad you're feeling good I agree that gratitude brings inner happiness, it has helped a lot in my life thinking of all the things I have to be thankful for. And as you said striving for self improvement helps a lot too.

@Blue_Bird, thank you so much!!! Yes, I have discovered that a secret to happiness is gratitude. We can mope and complain about all that is negative or seemingly negative in our lives, thereby missing all that is positive and all that we DO have. I am trying to make a daily practice of having gratitude. And yes, self -improvement I feel also leads to greater happiness, because one is constantly learning from mistakes and striving to do better, therefore, a person can feel happy about their own progress in life.

Thank you for your post! Hugs to you.
