so about 10 minits from where I live, they have set up a traveling funfair (from friday to sunday)

I find it a bit strange, (given it's not really funfair weather, and of course kovid) but it made me think to ask:

have you been to a traveling funfair/ if not, would you go?

why or why not

I wouldn't go on the ridesl. I wouldn't trust the rides (I'm more kikely to trust the rides at disney or something), but maybe for the games. win a teddy, win sweets, etc.

games are cool anyway. I love things where you get to try your luck

Its really stupid we call what your talking about a carnival. Apparently we were meant to gave our yearly one this month it was going ahead despite the UK being on a mini lockdown...... the carnival is a breeding ground for COVID-19.... think of all the germs going about. Its so stupid to have one at the current level we are sitting at. I understand the workers need money and the furlong scheme ends this month coming. But come on people think about it.

When I was a kid we use to go to carnivals all over the place loved them and the rides. You felt great when you went. I use to go on most of the rides and have such a great time.

I agree. We have to be careful right now. Whatever you want to call them, they are fun to go to, but not now. Wait until it's safe.

They used to pop up in parking lots all over the place when I was a kid. I haven't seen one for many years, probably due to gang action, shootings, and crime in general. It was always exciting to see a carnival and they were so pretty on a summer night.

a "carnival" sounds more grown up than a "traveling fair"

it's amazing the diffrence in words (even in the UK)

I think I'm going to start using carnival too. thanks

The few happy memories from childhood I have are of riding the tilt-a-whirl or scrambler and eating candy floss. I always avoided the dodgy games, but loved the rides and the food.

I wouldn't go near a fair during covid. But if I could find someone who enjoys it as much as I do, I'd love to go to a fair again as an adult.

My favorite ride is the merry-go-round on one of the horses & listening to the music.

I used to go to a couple every year when I was a kid. We’d get the $15 passes where you could ride as many rides as you wanted to for a couple hours. Then after that my parents would let us play a couple games and then they’d take us out for pizza. It was ok until I was 11 and I went on this one ride that went upside down. Not even a roller coaster just a ride where you went upside down. It scared the crap out of me so badly and I think I only went on one carnival ride in my entire life after that. Those apples that would go around.

Well, it has been a long time since I went to a funfair, but I do recall having a great day out when they came to town. Must be near on 20 years now since I went to one. I remember when I won some nice prizes with the raffel tickets!

Oh yes, & I remember those games where you could win something if you could toss your coin into the right dish or whatever. That's how I won a baby duck, who I named Lucky.

I've never heard of the term "funfair". Is that a British way of calling what in my area is just "a fair"? If so, I have been to fairs. When I was younger I liked rides, though not very scary ones. I liked the food. There is often fun type food not normally eaten (i.e. funnel cake). Games can be fun, too. My area doesn't have them often. Instead, there is something like that at the shore. I live close to the Atlantic coast, and New Jersey has boardwalks with lots of rides, food places, and games.

We get a county fair once a year. But this year it was canceled. They did set up a couple food booths in an empty parking lot but I didn’t stop when I saw them and the next time I was there they were gone already. I would have liked to get a funnel cake, yum. M
