What do you people like about drawing and painting? What makes you come back to the hobby? Also what do you like to draw and paint?
Thanks for this!

I paint. I’m not very good but my family likes it and that’s enough to keep at it. I hadn’t painted for years and my daughter gifted me a COVID surprise, a basket full of painting supplies. I google wine and paint night for ideas on what to paint. My daughter asked for a moon picture for my granddaughters room. Now I have to find something to paint for my grandson.

Well, I have rediscovered my zest for painting over the last few years after dropping it in my 20ts. While it can be a tad frustrating at the start and the middle, when the final painting comes in to view it can be satisfying indeed to step back and say that's a good one.
Mostly, I do landscapes and sea views. Sometimes I branch out into abstracts.

I draw with a #2 led pencil or colored pencils every day. I work on acrylic paintings too. I do it because I like being creative and creating something new, mainly my artwork every day.

I enjoy drawing or doodling, but not super talented, just like attempting to draw.

I draw fantasy maps, technical schemata from Star Wars, and the like. I love the act of world building, and as soon as this map is done, will undoubtedly start mapping the cities of some of the larger ports of note, as well as various other ruins and areas for no other reason than to world-build.

Does anyone draw or paint?

Thanks, all! I think if I didn't have some kind of obsessive disorder, I'd probably not have the patience for it. As it is, I work on it sporadically so as not to get burnt out. I'll see about posting a larger, higher-res shot of it later today, if you like. I have one more area to do, and then I can begin adding details such as sailing ships in the corner, the legend, sea serpents, nautical notes, and whatnot.

If I was going to do painting, though, I think I'd have to go with Bob Ross...

I actually did a 9 sheet series once when I was young--just sketched out and not really filled in, but the idea was there. An entire world, and since I was always good at coming up with iconic-sounding names, I came up with some good ones for this, like Uthengard, a massive mountain surrounding by a plain (basically a single extinct volcanic cone) on this island that dwarves carved out over centuries to hollow out completely. Massive halls fifty feet wide (or more in some places) and eighty or a hundred feet high, with massive pillars and statues and stone arcades with fountains and elaborate bas relief carvings...all brightly lit with mage lights and chandeliers because it was the home of the High Council of Wizardry, a council of eight wizards, each of whom was an expert in a single school of magic. This was basically a group that made sure that there were no more wizard warlords running renegade across the face of the planet, calling down balefire and wiping out entire cities using magical energy...lol I had so many stories...

Ooo have you thought of writing a book about that? I’d read that.

I have, actually. Part of the idea behind finally putting this map together was that it would be open-source, so people could use it, and the established canon within it, to tell new stories and take it from there. A sort of crowd-sourced world-building/story-telling effort.

This current continent, Corthesia, has quite a few stories of it's own. The Sunreach was basically supposed to be like the African savannah, with Helicor being a fierce, insular tribal nation rich in gems and gold. Then there's Six Kings Swamp, named so because a millennia back, there were six brothers who all wanted the throne, and they all went to this witch to scheme against the others, not knowing each was doing likewise. The witch had the final laugh, giving them each enough power to cause problems, but when all six met to have it out, magical chaos was unleashed, sinking the land into a mire. The witch, meanwhile, moved right into the swamp and still lives there to this day. (She's not actually a witch, but a polymorphed green dragoness). Now, it's home to all sorts of nasties forgotten treasure...

I would so buy a book about all that. Like lord of the rings meets game of thrones in the best swords and fantasy style.

I like to create collages, like those in my photo album. It's sorta weird, but therapeutically relaxing at the same time!

I also paint but I'm not good at it or you can say I am just average. And I don't paint often, I only paint when I feel like it.

I have been dancing with the idea of trying to paint again. It would be great if I could. It's been much too long, away from it.

Very cool work, Michael2wolves!!!

And thanks everybody else, for their inspiring shares!

I draw or paint childish pictures like a 5-10 year old kid. I mean flowers, cute animals, princesses etc. I do that as a part of inner child healing.

I try to draw a lot but I've not been doing too much of it lately. I do traditional and digital, really I'll try any medium, the only one I really don't like is charcoal. My favourites are coloured pencil. Usually when I paint it's oil but I don't do it enough to be good at at. I mean I guess whether I'm good at an art is up for debate. But here have the last thing I finished to go off of. It's my DnD baby Cadence.

Does anyone draw or paint?
I mostly draw portraits like that, but sometimes I do full bodies, I just need the right motivation. Of course lately I haven't really had any motivation.

I used to do a lot of digital art. I have close to 130 images. Most are on DeviantArt. I get good feedback there. I also have about 50 images on Etsy. I tried making a living as an artist. I sold a few things. I'm a bit discouraged at the moment. I mainly illustrate landscapes. I love vector art and flat designs. I use Adobe Illustrator. For fun I will draw, color and do traditional painting. I just like being creative. My favorite thing to do is art challenges. I've done still life, people, portraits, buildings and animals. When CBD was really popular, I did some art for that. I was hoping to sell it on ShutterStock.
