I grew up around people, and then married someone, where I wasn't supposed to stand out. I wasn't supposed to be proud of my achievements, whatever they might be.
Please! Tell me, and the rest of us, about something you are proud of! Something you did, some change you made, something you can look back on. Anything you want to share. You deserve to be celebrated. RDMercer |

Wow.
Much respect to you! My oldest asked me if I ever tried smoking. I said no. He asked why. I said, "Have you ever seen me with cookies? I have no restraint. I'll eat them until they're gone. When I was 15 I realized this about myself, and decided it best NOT to even try things that I may like that could lead me in the wrong direction. If I did, I don't think I'd be strong enough to stop." Much respect to you for good decisions and willpower! I'm happy for you. RDMercer |

Aw good on you LS, 3 yrs will be a big deal! Three long years... Great inspiration. 20 April happens to be Hitler's bday too, hah (I know that because I'm a bit of world war two buff) so, it's like symbolic of discarding evil ways (to me). I'm recoveribg alcoholic, so I'm allowed to say that

I'm proud of myself for getting sober, now 5+ years, and rebuilding my life after basically destroying it, and losing everything due to addiction.

I am proud I was finally able to stand up to my new psychiatrist, for all the good it did. I have a good trauma team, but both the original psychiatrist and psychologist I stated with retired. Naturally I got their replacements, and it has been an adjustment. When I am able to go into the office and see the new psychiatrist it is well something.
She will get to the stage where she is going to electronically send in my medications, puts her fingers on the keyboard and it's like she has an epileptic fit. I have never seen anyone prescribe that much. I know I am ill and she is just trying to help but it is embarrassing to to into the pharmacy to get them when I have to. I went in yesterday to pick some up and was mortified. The lady working behind the counter, got my information and says; "We have got your 12 mg's of Xanax a day ready, can't really say I have ever seen anyone that takes that much." I just looked around nervously then replied, "I don't think I have either ma'am." Of course I cannot take all of that, I would be asleep all the time, then there is a bunch of other junk I have to take. She still prescribed it but at least I finally said something so it was a small victory. |

First thing, I'm proud of this thread. It's cool.
Second thing, I'm proud of my daughter. She is a Junior at Michigan State and majoring in Kinesiology with a GPA of 3.7. That alone is an accomplishment but she had a rough road growing up being tormented and bullied by her brother for so many years. I did the best I could with him and he's out of the house so now all of my focus is on her and it's wonderful. Third thing, for the two that have already posted (and hopefully more to follow) about beating their addictions, I say, "Bravo." That is a huge accomplishment and deserves to be celebrated. |

Seeing our children grow and thrive is awesome, and so much to be proud of!
Breaking a cycle of going to toxic relationships because they're familiar is huge! Wow! Self advocating for mental health care is so important, and that must have been so hard. You must have felt vulnerable doing it, but you still did. |

Wow
That has to require so much commitment to healthy choices, therapy, and a lot of mental discipline. You must be really strong. |

Ok.
I'm going to share one. I've always been interested in strength sports; field events (shot put, discus), weightlifting, powerlifting, strongman. But I'm a pretty average guy. As these things happen, my son is a genetic freak. As a teen he became a nationally ranked strength athlete. I was his coach. We have some good memories of that. He was talking to one of his teachers about his training. Teacher said, "I could do those things in my younger days, but I'm too old now." Son said, "Yeah.... That's an excuse. Dad's ten years older than you and he works out with me. I see him banging out set after set of heavy barbell squats, sweating and chuffing like a freakin train, doing tire slams and farmer walks. You just made a choice to quit and he chose to keep going." He's way, way stronger than me, but I felt like I set an example for him. |

Pretty proud of my whole life except for a 13 year period (out of 71 years) where life got messed up. Pretty much had to fight & work extra hard to accomplish the things I wanted out of life to get my degree & have the computer engineering career I had. Lost the will to fight for those 13 years when I was 42 but in reality the fight & drive was just hidden for those years because when I found myself again I didn't bother to fight I just took the action I needed to to take care of myself & move to where I knew I could thrive alone. Those 13 years held depression, anxiety, anorexia, & traumas along with suicide attempts. The recovery process has been amazing & I love life more now than I ever did because I don't have to fight for everything & I am just thankful for what I do have after just walking away with nothing (2100 miles away) from 33 years in a bad marriage.
