My husband suggested we take a "road trip" after finally preparing our house for sale on the market. There is a specific reason, relating to our car, that also makes such a trip worthwhile, financially. He proposed heading south, since the weather would be warmer there. What popped into my mind was South Carolina. I've never been there, but heard that there are lots of nice places to see and things to do there. If you have been to (or live in) South Carolina, can you offer some suggestions? We will want to stay within a low budget.

Any suggestions about other places, in nearby states, would also be welcome. I'm not so interested in going as far south as Florida, but possibly Georgia. We'd also go through states directly to the north, along the eastern side. Anything from Maryland/D.C. up is very familiar territory for us. We've been to Shenandoah.

Dear Soupe du jour,

I don't know enough about the regions you mention to offer anything meaningful. Hopefully people here from those areas will see your post and respond to it with helpful suggestions.

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen

Isn’t Colbert from SC? Maybe you could visit his home town? I think he was from the Charleston area.

@Nammu, I already mentioned an interest in Charleston to my husband, though not specifically because of Stephen Colbert, though I know he's from SC. As for Colbert, I am a huge fan. Coincidentally, when we were in Paris recently, we stumbled upon a street "Rue de l'Hôtel Colbert", so I took a photo of my husband pointing to the sign. We've wanted to send it to him, but haven't yet done so. Have I mentioned here my liking for Stephen Colbert? It seems interesting that you offered such a suggestion. I wonder if I did go to SC, and visited his home town (and told him), if he'd think I was a bit too obsessed In any case, I'm happily married and Colbert seems to be, as well.

Attached is the photo I mentioned. I hid my husband's face because he'd probably want that done, even though he was wearing a mask.

He’s very married. Since covid his wife is with him a lot during taping. Maybe including your husband pointing to the sign will make it like, look we this couple send you and your wife regards. but it would be cool!
