My library finally reopened.
I'm going this afternoon to pick up a book on hold. They've been great while they were closed, but I've missed being able to go in and walk the stacks. They only allow people to stay for an hour, but that's plenty of time for me to wander around and find some books.

Happy, happy, joy, joy! The library reopened!!!!

My library opened months ago. First they just had curbside service. Because of some glitches I can’t reserve books online so I had to call in our books. Then they opened for limited browsing, 30 minutes. And adults only on computers and only for an hour. Only Monday though Friday. Now they are open for browsing from 12-4pm m-f and 10-12 Saturday. With curbside service from 10-2 m-f plus Saturday they have longer hours for the reference desk. I go in to use the computer for about 5-10 minutes to put books on reserve and browsing. For about 15 minutes. Love my library! ❤️ I’m so glad your library finally opened Liz, what joy!

Service was great while they were closed. I could go online and reserve material. They'd send an email when the stuff was ready for pickup. You'd schedule a time to pick things up, text them when you arrived. They're text back and have you drive to a spot and they'd bring the stuff out.

I also discovered I like downloading ebooks to my phone to read. Always thought I'd hate ebooks. I love holding a "real" book and turning the pages. Turns out I like being able to access my book anywhere. Still prefer paper books, but it's a nice alternative.

Staff at the library is still taking lots of steps to keep people safe. They take your temp at the door and ask some simple questions checking to see if you might have been exposed. You're limited to being inside for an hour. They limit the number of people inside. They have reshelving carts parked all over the place. They ask if you take a book off the shelf that you leave on a cart so they can resolve it. I saw a librarian wiping down books on the carts before reshelving them.

Lord gawd Billy Bob it felt soooooo good to walk the stacks looking for something to read. I found new books by THREE authors I really like. I feel so rich tonight!

Yay! I miss the Friends of the Library where everything was no more than 50 cents. My parents and I would come home with boxes of books.

I love the idea of going home with boxes of books! All the employees in my company got given gift cards recently and I spent mine on craft books 😁 It felt so indulgent!

It sounds like your library is being really careful. That's good. I haven't been to mine physically in a while, but I like to download audiobooks to my phone.

nothing at all to do with my fear of an appocalypse or the fact that the weather here has been just above freezing

That's so exciting, liz! My library is only 2 blocks away. It's a gorgeous historical building. But we're still on curbside pick-up.

Curbside sure beat not being able to get books at all, but oh the joy of wandering the stacks! It's one of my pleasures in life.

Im happy for you. your local library is open. I wish you well in getting your books. Its been sometime since I checked if my local library is open. One thing I miss is their periodic outdoor reduced priced book sales. Hardbacks for a dollar and paper, tradebacks for 50 cents. Subjects from art history to zoo animals and virtually everything in between, classics, best sellers too.
