Happy Valentine's Day. I've never been in a couple, so I just celebrate by watching Valentine's Day episodes of my favorite shows.

It was a long time ago when I had a woman to love on Valentine's Day. It seemed like it was two whole lifetimes ago. Yep, that long ago! That was when I weighed less with a slimmer body and better looking skin.

What's interesting is that quite a few years ago, while working at my present job, I had to deliver a lot of flowers to women from male senders. And then for some years, I would take Valentine's Day off because I couldn't stand having to deliver flowers. The next day people would joke that I took a woman on a romantic trip for the day, which never happened. But in the last few years, there had been no flowers to deliver. Maybe romance is on the way out. This year, it comes on a Sunday, so that's fine with me.

I got flowers delivered to me on February 13 from a guy I liked one year. I was very excited until he told me they were just for friendship. Talk about mixed messages!

I used to like Valentine’s Day for the half off candy on the 15th. But last year it was just 25% off. I guess because last year Valentine’s Day was on a Friday so maybe people were celebrating all weekend.

I won’t bother with any of that this year.

Once I asked my dad about my early childhood, back to the time when I could not form any memories.I donot have a single memory of being loved. So I thought my very early childhood might have some love.My dad told me one day I woke up from my sleep around midnight and started crying when I was around age 3.My dad woke up and asked me why was I crying.I was inconsolable and finally told him ,I was hungry and wanted rice pudding.I wouldn't stop asking for rice pudding. My mom woke up by then.
I was so excited to hear my childhood story, and asked my dad ..dad.what did you guys do then.I was expecting some lovely soothing thing. My dad tells me...What could I do? You wouldn't stop .So I slapped you hard?I didn't believe what I heard.Dad?You Slapped me?? Yeh,I had to,your mom woke up and was worried that now she have to make rice pudding.
My parents exchanged glances after the story. My dad looks at my mom romantically and she looks back at him admirably ((like she is saying I love you))and smiles.Sick people.
Now love has been elusive to me all my life. I have decided I will rely on self-love.This Valentine's I will treat myself with rice pudding. Happy Valentine's to all.

This year is the anniversary of the "almost-kiss". He tried, I acted awkward. I wanted him to kiss me more than anything. I regret not kissing him. *sigh*

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!! I think this day is for expressing love, period. It's not just for couples. I remember when I was little in grade school, we gave each other little Valentine's messages, cute little greetings that came in a package, & they were all different. And I would pick out the right ones for various classmates. It meant a lot to me. And I loved receiving them. It felt like love to my heart. And we made decorations out of red construction paper & white paper doilies. That was a happy day for me. I wish you all a wonderful Valentine's day!

Nice post, Breaking Dawn. It's true that "this day should be about expressing love, period." Also, I hadn't thought about the little valentines shared with elementary school classmates in many, many years! What a nice memory. Thanks.

Although my partner & I have been together almost 20 years, we don't exchange gifts or cards. Call me cynical, but I find the Hallmark card thing to be one big scam. You're paying $5 or more on a piece of paper with a sentiment written by a total stranger. It's better to show love & appreciation for loved ones in more concrete ways.
