The worst thing experience I've ever had with healthcare was with a temporary psychiatrist. She looked at my diagnosis and said (paraphrase), "Oh god, how awful is it that you're at the time of your life where most people your age to want to be pregnant! Your children will be deformed and retarded, not to mention being born with heart and brain deformities. With your meds and your diagnosis you are the last person who should get pregnant."
I was so upset and still upset by her response, but I never said anything. It really hurt me though. |

When I was in college, I was constantly asked if I was pregnant, and they also tried to push birth control on me. Didn't matter to them that I wasn't having sex or having menstrual problems.

I had a doctor obsessed about my weight. That’s all she would ever talk about no matter what I came in there for. Then when I started losing weight all she talked about was how she was concerned that I’d gain it back. She would also blame everything on my anxiety. I would go in there for severe side pain and throwing up and my blood work would be off and she still said it was just my anxiety.
I also had a therapist who fired me and didn’t give me a referral to another therapist. She just left me hanging and told me I was fine. Then I ended up in the hospital a couple weeks later. I got a new therapist right after that and her and my Pdoc were so pissed at the old therapist and they blamed my hospitalization on her. __________________ Ridin' with Biden |

I had an ER Dr. tell me "There's no point in treating you, you're just going to drink again." when I went into the ER for a very dangerous withdrawal. That's about the worst thing you can say to someone who's trying to change their life.

“You probably never would have been happy with anybody.” It hurts because it’s probably true.

recently I had a doctor tell me that he hoped I got covid19. it made me so angry and upset, and of course, I complained to the practice and they are like yeah, course he did, and just shrugged it off
I have also been asked by a nurse in a hospital if I was their to actually get treatment or to waste their time, and if the latter, to move and give everyone else a chance (I was in for what I thought was a heart attack, but just anxiety psymptoms) and I've been told by someone they won't treat me because I smell and I'd scare the patients and that I should quit being a crybaby over needles and learn to take it like everyone else |

When I was in college, I told one of my professors that I had depression, and she replied, what are you talking about? You don't actually have anything to be depressed about.
The irony was that she was a professional in a field that deals with mental health, and I was in school at that time pursuing her same area of practice. That interaction was both humiliating and disheartening. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

I was 48 at the time, and on my first appointment with this particular psychiatrist, I told her of my struggles and confided to her that if things don't improve for me, I'm going to kill myself on my 50th birthday. I was serious. And she laughed. 😡 Big red flag. Then she and the psychologist proceeded to treat me like I was there drug seeking because I had told the guy doing my initial assessment that I really need to be on some kind of medication. The whole thing was so awful, fulfilling my worst fears about reaching out to them. Anyway, it was only, I'll say, an 'act of God' two months before my 50th birthday, not their so-called 'help' which saved me & helped me to keep fighting. Two years ago

I was at a children’s hospital in 2007 and I was there for a medical reason but I was also having mental health problems as well. Most of the doctors and nurses were scared of me. One doctor even jumped back and looked startled when I laughed at something. It really hurt my feelings how freaked out they were over my mental health issues. Then I was transferred to a medical hospital that had a pediatric psych ward in it and everyone there was fine with me.

A military quack doctor telling me that my horrible constant headaches were "normal", and another military quack (for a later ailment) who told me I just needed to relax and my stomach problems would disappear. I think my mother helped him with that. She never accepted the fact that I was sick.

That I'd never lose all that weight I gained after my 1st pregnancy. I lost it in 3 months.

I told a PN that I was concerned about my weight and AP. She told me to quit eating at McDonald's. It was horrible because I mainly ate at home and I ate healthy things. She just made an assumption because I am overweight.

I was always underweight. As an adult, I was tested to have gluten, dairy, peanuts, and various fruits and sugar sensitivities and intolerances. I looked unhealthy for all my childhood because I was eating large quantities of these trigger foods and not maintaining any weight. At that time, my family doctor told me I just needed to "eat more".. like "ice cream" and extra junk food to bulk up with. He saw my condition as a behaviour problem.

I struggled with acne for many years as a teenager. My face was always oily and full of pimples. However, the doctor always said it was completely normal at that age.
I finally convinced him to give me an appointment with a dermatologist, and the dermatologist said I should have had come earlier!! I was prescribed isotretinoin because I had severe acne. The worst thing is that some spots are starting to appear on my face again. And he's always telling me it's normal because of the mask. Almost all spots are appearing on my forehead, though... It's hilarious! |

My acne was actually worse in my 20s than it was in my teens. I have a lot of scarring from it.

I'm sorry to hear that. I have a lot of scarring, too. It enrages me that the doctor can see them in plain sight and still doesn't recognize my acne is hard to control.

A dermatologist wanted to put me on accutane, but a possible side effect is depression, so I said no. An antibiotic actually helped clear my skin.

Accutane (isotretinoin) was my last resort and my lifesaver. I'll never forget how long the possible secondary effects list was. My skin and my lips became dry. When I blew my nose with a tissue, I used to have a nosebleed. I've never met someone who hasn't had one of those secondary effects. I was under treatment for 6 months and the dermatologist periodically checked up on me and insisted I should let him know as soon as possible if something unusual happened... Just to stay on topic, I once had a throat infection and this doctor I talk about told me that sore throat syrups were useless, and that he wouldn't prescribe me any. I want to change doctors so much. __________________ "'You mean you live down here?' Matilda asked. 'I do', Miss Honey replied, but she said no more.
