Do you have any? My family is going to Montana so I won’t be doing anything. Honestly BBQ food makes me feel really sick. I think it’s because everyone who BBQs that I know burns the food to the point it’s really not edible and the charcoal makes me nauseated. So I’m glad there’s not a BBQ going on this year but I’m hoping my neighbors put on a good fireworks show. Last year was the best fireworks display I ever saw and I didn’t have to leave my driveway. It was a peaceful hour where I could just forget Covid for a bit.

I plan to stay home, in part because I want to be here if the critters get scared by the noise, but mainly 'cuz I just don't want to have to go anywhere.
I'm going to cook a couple of hot dogs on my Foreman grill (just as good as grilled on the bbq) and spend the day vegging. That's my idea of a nice day. |

The 4th of July is a weird day for me. A couple of my cats get completely terrified and I like to be at home to soothe them. It's pitiful, how frightened they get.
My husband is a Vietnam vet and does not do well with the booming fireworks. He gets so anxious. He'll come over for awhile, but the best part of the 4th is when I turn the lights out, which calms the cats, and go to bed. When I was a kid people used legal fireworks and the shows were so pretty. Now there are complete jerks who keep setting off very loud, illegal fireworks. It's scary. I'm always worried the illegal fireworks will start a fire. I get angry because I have called the cops about illegal fireworks that were so loud my windows were rattling. Every year there are stories on the local news about how "this year the police are cracking down on illegal fireworks," but they never do. __________________ |

Beth, has your husband tried lavender oil to help him cope with the loud noises? I actually learned about it from my vet. It works very well.

Mum and I are planing to have lunch out that day. Maybe go to the ice cream social if it’s not as hot and humid as they say. We might drive by the park and if there’s a HC parking spot stop to listen to the band play. But usually all the HC spots are gone and it’s very hilly there so it’s too far to walk. Really it’s just another day.

Thanks for the suggestion. He's all "man up" about things, so wouldn't consent to using anything. Buuut...I can burn lavender incense! __________________ |
