I'm going to try to keep this short because I'm upset enough I could go on at great length.

I had an appt. with my pdoc yesterday. I got a text last week telling me it was a phone appt. I was not happy about it being by phone because I really wanted to see him face to face. The time for the call came around and I did not here from him. I waited 40 minutes before calling the office to find out what was going on. I thought maybe he was dealing with an emergency. The woman who answered the phone said she would talk to him and call me back.

No call back yesterday or today so I called the office. They told me he tried calling me yesterday, but there was no answer. I told them the phone never rang, there was no missed call on my call log and no VM. I was told the only solution was to reschedule. HIS NEXT AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT IS JULY12th!!!! I asked them to put me on the cancelation list so if someone cancels before my appt they will call me.

I'm pissed. I've been struggling with coping. Life has just gotten to be tough to deal with the last few months. I will address this whole clusterF with him when I see him, but am thinking of sending him a letter telling him I am not happy about the situation. I'd wait until I cool off before writing/sending it. I know I'm too emotional right now. So, what do y'all think about sending him a letter?

I think sending him a letter is appropriate. In addition to that I would go into his office in person, find out if they have your correct number and patiently, but persistently, explain that you were by your phone and it never rang. Explain to them that you MUST have an appointment soon because you are not feeling well, at all. The key here is patient persistence. As in I must be seen within a week, I am NOT doing well.

If the office has the correct number for you, he obviously dialed it incorrectly.

I have found that when I go into a medical office in person I get better results than I do by calling. There's something about putting a face to the name.

p.s. I am so fed up with phone calls and telehealth! They're fraught with problems and snafus.

Thanks Beth..
His office is 25 miles away. One of the disadvantages of living in the boonies. I don't think I'll just drop by to talk to the staff. Am going to send him a letter though.

I'm with you about telehealth "stuff". When it first came into being for counseling I wasn't sure I would want to provide services that way. (I'm a counselor). Having to use telehealth during Covid convinced me I hate it both as the provider and the receiver.

Waiting till you cool off is an excellent strategy. I’d write the letter too. He dropped the ball. He should fit you in and make time. Waiting 6 weeks is unacceptable

Since it is his fault appointment felt through, he must fit you in earlier. It’s your health on a line, not hair appointment. Write a letter

When you say letter, do you mean in the mail? Who's to say they'd even respond or say they got it? I like Beth's idea of going there along with sending a letter and yes, wait till you cool off a little. I agree with everyone else that this is unacceptable. I'm sorry you are struggling too.

Edit: oops just saw your response to Beth. Yes do what you feel is best.

Yes, I mean good old fashioned snail mail. I will address it to him, mark it confidential and keep a copy to take with me to my appointment.

I don't think going to the office and talking to staff will do any good. I'd be talking to the same people who were no help on the phone. I would rather deal directly with him.

Sounds like you caught him napping or golfing. Or really just a brain fart on his end. I'm sorry you were let down. I hope you get some relief / recompense.

I hope you get things worked out and can see him sooner.

My Pdoc pulled some similar **** in December. I’d get notifications saying my appointment was canceled for no reason and then I’d have to call and it would be an insurance issue. This was when I was in IOP. Then I told my case manager a couple days later that I really needed to see him. Finally a few days later he called and said “oh my god thank god I’ve reached you I’ve been trying to contact you for 4 days they gave me the wrong number!” And I just played along with it because I am not bold. But it’s like they only have my phone on record and my moms in case of an emergency. So how could he get a wrong number? I didn’t have any voicemail or missed calls from him so I know he didn’t try calling.

I swear some of these mental health providers lie just to save their own asses.

You could send the snail mail letter registered so he has to sign for it & you know he got it then. I would be upset too knowing that cell phones register all calls missed or not & no voice mail. Sounds like a fishy excuse that he really didn't call to me or he called a wrong number that wasn't yours. Might want to double check that they have your correct phone number or that he does. Lol....ask for their phone log to PROVE that they called you

I think a letter is a good idea. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I actually like video chats with doctors, but I know not everyone does.

Downandlonely, the phone appointments are just that - phone calls, no video.

I agree with whoever said to send a letter certified return receipt requested. What if you did that and then give it for five days once you know it’s been signed for and then go in person? I know it’s kind of annoying and that it’s 25 miles away but I agree with Beth when it comes to being in person speaking to people it’s really hard for them to brush you off or be rude when you were right there in front of them.

A lot of cell phones filter and block unidentified and scam calls now...it’s usually at the carrier level. I would check with your cell company because most doctors call from blocked numbers.

Hi!
Sending the letter to me depends on your thereuptic relationship and what you are working on. If an a emergency go to emergency room, not quite an emergency you could talk to front desk again and maybe get on a cancelation list. If someone cancels they can call you and fit you in.
If it was me and not an emeregency, write a letter now. Put down everything you feel. Go for it, no elegant language Then put the letter awAy for a week. When you read letter again, see if you feel that way. Maybe consider writing another letter after that week. Also you may want to keep first letter and when you see therapist again, discuss the main things in letter.

Whatever you write now, try waiting, reevaluAting and going from there. Bring the original and any rewrites to therapy session. See what would help you communicate

My phone shows me if a call was blocked. Plus I got texts from his office.

I'd write the letter now, while your feelings are fresh, and get it sent right out before you begin to second-guess yourself.
