Besides drinking….getting sober is something that will get you back to health both body and mind….What tends to negate this progress?
SUGAR 😩 Does as much, if not more damage than junk food. It’s right up there with alcohol. Ugh |

I totally understand where this is coming from. It's such a disgusting thing to believe ever existed.

My diet has been unhealthy my whole life and at 28 I have bad cholesterol. My doctor told me to cut out basically every food I eat. I’ve been getting better with the food but cutting out soda has been tough.

The artificial sweeteners can be worse. One of many reasons why diet soda shouldn't be classed as healthy.
What really annoys me is the food companies that produce low fat biscuits/cookies/cake. Don't know if you're familiar with the Go Ahead brand, but it's advertised as being good for you. No it's not! Making the products low fat means they've upped the sugar. Even for someone with a sweet tooth, they are disgusting! |

Getting control of the sugar is one of the hardest things for people to accomplish concerning diet. To some, it’s really addictive due to the same effects it has on the brain. Like alcohol, having too much sugar can be just as destructive ☹️

I'm in Overeaters Anonymous, and a lot of the other members are in AA too. They turned to sugar after quitting alcohol. I find the 12 steps helpful to work on the root of the issue, but I know there are other ways to quit.

I hear you on this.
Though I am not one to add sugar to coffee, or the like, I do love my desserts and sweet breakfasts. And eat too much too often. I do need to cut down. I'm getting worried about diabetes type 2 risk. I can't completely eliminate desserts from my diet, so I'm thinking of re-incorporating some sugar substitutes. I know many people are against them, but I don't mind them. |

I believe in some cases it is it addictive. I had gastric bypass so generally speaking I don’t eat a lot at one time. But one week of eating refined carbs and sugar things and 5 pounds shows of the next week. And the funny thing is if I have one day or two of eating stuff like that I do crave it. So I generally avoid it.

I use turbinado sugar (less processed, still has some of the molasses in it). I also add local honey to foods when cooking & want to sweeten them. Only refined sugar I use is when a baking recipe calls for it. I don't do much baking

I prefer to use honey in tea. It's lower on the glycemic index.

Yes cutting out sugar all together is not easy, it’s sneaky since it’s in foods not considered dessert such as ketchup, some soups such as tomato soup, and added to some canned fruits and vegetables. When looking at list of ingredients whatever is the first ingredient that is mostly what makes up that certain food so candy may list sugar first for example where in ketchup it may be the third or fourth ingredient.
