There's a tropical storm building in the Caribbean. It's still days away from Florida, but the models have it following the same path as Irma in 2017. Irma did all sorts of tremendous damage. I have my hurricane supplies and my evacuation plan. Still having some Irma related anxiety.

@lizardlady sorry to hear that you may see a storm. Hope you stay safe.
A friend keeps all the important papers and things packed for an early evacuation if called for and chosen by them. The problem is that most people wait till the last moment and the roads are filled. They keep the gas tank filled and ready to leave if necessary. All the best to you. @CANDC __________________ Super Moderator Community Support Team "Things Take Time" |

I keep important papers in a lockbox I can grab and go. That's part of my evacuation plan. As for actually evacuating, I take back roads. The main highways turn into parking lots. No one uses the back roads.

Oo it looks like a nail biter, and you have to watch it come for the whole holiday weekend. Not getting to Florida until Tuesday then taking the whole day to go across the state! I hope it falls apart first

Add to the usual hurricane worries I have to be in court for work next Thursday. If I have to evacuate I may not even be back by Thursday.

I remember your work as being very inflexible when it comes to natural disasters and pandemics. That’s horrible to have to worry about that on top of everything else.

The not knowing what you have to do till right when you know you have to is the hardest.....leaves that element of unknown until the time the decision has to be made. I get that.....only with different elements of my life than evacuating __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. We went everywhere together like this. Looks like it is staying as a TS going forward over FL, but that still creates tornado possibilities & heavy rain. Stay safe. We have had heavy rains lately in Ky. Shoot, when I was driving to the next town to see the ENT dr because of the bug that flew into my ear it was raining so hard, my fastest speed on my window wipers I still couldn't see driving

Hehe, wipers on max and still can't see is typical for our daily storms in the summer!
If it stays a TS or even Cat one storm I am not going to evacuate. We can ride out either of those. I reached out to a friend of mine to offer to help her evacuate if she needs to. She never responded. She is an unusual sort of person who has gotten contrary in the last year. It's gotten too late for me to help her at this point. She lives three hours away. I can't put my own evacuation plans in place, then go help her before the storm gets here. I hope is is going to be okay. |

My horse loves to be outside so I always try to leave her out till just before a storm hits when there is lightning involved. I have gotten so drenched more times than not trying to get her into her halter & walk her into the barn with lightning flashing all around. I have to drive from my farm about 1/4 mile down the road to the farm where I have her. I usually get there before the downpour. I have spent many hours inside the barn on top of the hill watching & waiting for the storm cells to pass. Interesting watching the rain come down in the different areas while dumping on the barn. Our usual summer storms too but interesting, cause I can see it pouring on the road several miles away & not yet at the barn. Never know where it will pour the hardest. The other day we got so much rain it overflowed my raccoons wading pond & it was low to start with. About 8 inches of rain

Eskie, I have things set up so the horses are free to chose between being outside of standing in the aisle of the barn. Works out nicely for them and me.

If/when I get my own farm set up it will be exactly that way for my horse. Where she is now, there is a huge turnout area that is fenced in & a power pole with a transformer on it that Izzy likes to stand UNDER in lightning storms. No way to get her into the barn without leading her there. I have a design set in my mind for her on my own farm where she will be free to choose & no power poles with a transformer to stand under anywhere near her area. That is ideal to have it set up for it to be their choice. I love when she gets rain baths. Makes her coat soft & washed off all the sweat. She was always outside when she lived in Ca but no harsh storms & winter times like here

Okay, back to TS Elsa....
She's headed toward Cuba now. One can hope that the mountains of Cuba tear the storm apart. The Keys are under a Tropical Storm WRning/Watch. The modules of the path have it crossing the state from west to east. Some models showing it coming in on Tampa Bay. That could be a disaster even if it's only a tropical storm. A storm coming up the bay will push water into low laying areas. There is a ton of development in areas that will be under water. |

I have been watching updates on my weather app. Hopefully it will die down some over Cuba & be a less severe TS over Fl.....sounded like it will still cause problems in some areas of Fl

A tropical storm watch just went up for my part of the state. I don't know why, but I'm having a lot of anxiety about this storm. Don't know why, just do.
