Of course, this is the view of someone who has visited regularly but has never lived there. Would love to spend enough time there to visit rural Northern California.

Yes, I often think fondly of the open spaces I experienced during my youth. My family lived in the metro areas of Arizona but got a cabin in the mountains in a small town (I believe it still has less than 1,000 residents but the population temporarily swells during 3 day Summer weekends) when I was 5 years old. We went there nearly every weekend then moved there permanently during my middle school years. I loved the beauty, nature and seasons I experienced there. I was able to roam freely, hiking, horseback bike riding and then was lucky enough to have access to a car when I was 16. My high school was not in the same town (our school district paid tuition to another district) but I have fond memories of "ditching" high school during the late Spring (I didn't do it often but the Spring fever, which made me long to be outside when the weather was beautiful, would get really powerful towards the end of the school year for many of us). When students played hooky at this high school, the meeting places were the lakes down South of the high school or the cold rivers nearby. I am lucky that my Dad gave me access to a vehicle even though I was a careless and fun seeking person. That I survived my fast, careless driving shows me that God was protecting me even way back then. I was very hard on the vehicles I drove (my favorite was an International Scout) but he gave me the means of freedom anyways. I am lucky that he was so patient with me and wish everyone could experience this.
I'm glad you have such good memories. Being in nature is calming & serene for me. It really helps bring balance. Do you always have reunions around Portland? Or, since your family lives all over, do you change the location each time you meet? Did you like cars because of the freedom or did you also like learning about & understanding how they worked & perhaps became a mechanic?

She's in Fleet. I understand about money issues. It's usually been a struggle for me. Right now I'm on disability & it doesn't quite cover rent & utilities. I do get some help, here & there for other expenses.

I understand. I appreciate you responding. I hope the move was a good one for you.

I thought that was all of England, lol. I belong to another site where they ladies from there put up a thread specifically to talk about the weather.

I sometimes think about moving to OR or WA, but this feels so much like home for me. I want to visit NY. Primarily for Broadway. I've loved theater, especially musicals, since I was a kid.

I'm not familiar with that. I looked it up. Friends of the Forest Foundation. I appreciate those doing what they're able to help others.

Don't be upset of lots of people never respond to this question.

Anonymity is paramount for an awful lot of members, including me. I have made friends on MH sites but it's a tricky business, as anyone can pose as anything, and you never really, truly know, for a long while, what a person is really like...sometimes, only when it is too late, and one's trust has been trod upon, or dashed once more.

I feel it has to be said. Members should be cautioned about how much personal information they give out, here.
