Hi, I hope this is the right place to post this. I'm sure this question has been asked before. I haven't posted in some time & there's probably quite a lot of newbies. I'm a NorCal native. I live in Ukiah. Which is a couple of hours north of San Francisco.

I've been a member/mod/admin of different online groups for 20+ years. In that time it's been rare to find active members from the West Coast, let alone CA. When I first joined, there were a few from around my area. I hope there's more now. Though I do enjoy getting to know people from around the world. It's nice to get different perspectives.

That sounds like a beautiful place to live. I grew up in the Southwest and during my youth, we regularly drove up Interstate 5 to visit relatives who lived in the Northwest. Now I live in the South but during my youth--45 years ago --I thought California would be the best state if it wasn't so crowded (spent time lots of time in the San Diego/LA areas and the Highways could turn into parking lots even back then so I enjoyed living in the mountains in a very small town in a less crowded state). IMO Northern California is beautiful but I know when there are droughts, it takes a toll on the land. Hope your beautiful area gets the rain it needs. Now I live in a suburb but there is some nature because of the nearby rivers and creeks. One morning, a small bridge near my home was impassable to pedestrians and bike riders for hours because of the large alligator which decided to leave the creek for a while. And we have so many wonderful birds I watch when I take my daily walks. Does Ukiah have a suburban atmosphere/size? Suburbia has wonderful conveniences so long as you do not have a long daily commute to a job.

Everyone in my family is from western central New Jersey in the US, at least originally. Some in the past also lived in eastern central Pennsylvania, basically walking-distance from the former across the Delaware River. I have an uncle and his family living in north central Pennsylvania.

Now I live in Czech Republic with my native Czech husband.

I am originally from the US. The last state I lived in was California. Now the wine country of Chile is my home, for better or worse.

Currently my home is in Midwest, suburbs of large metropolitan area. We live in almost outskirts of a metro area surrounded by lakes and greenery. Originally from Europe. I grew up in a city, capital to be precise. I immigrated to the US in my 30s. Likely will stick around, but who knows.

@TunedOut

I've been here about 10 years. It's a beautiful area & lovely community. I don't care for the temps in the summer, though. It was 112 on Sat. It's been over 100 the past few days. I like it 80 max. Ukiah is the county seat & has 16k people. It's a more rural area, which is my preference. It's twice the size of where I grew up, Sebastopol. There's less people & more open spaces up here & farther north & northeast. If you ever get the opportunity, I would recommend visiting. NorCal is definitely a different atmosphere from SoCal. We definitely need more rain. The lake here is very dry. Still lovely & certainly still calming & serene.

Over the years, I've gotten to know many people from England. I had always wanted to visit there. Even more so now to be able to see those friends in person.

I was a native So. Californian for 54 years though I spent all my growing up years during the summer with my grandparents in the capital city of Kansas where I actually enjoyed fishing on farm creeks & ponds with my grandpa.

At 54, I made a huge change in my life. I moved from LA County in Calif alone to a small 8000 population town in central Ky where I bought my small 10 acre farm surrounded by nature. I have my own woods, stream, creek in the back of my farm, a spring & enough field area for my horse. I have never been happier in my life. It was like I had country in my blood my whole life & I am getting to enjoy the last half of my life living where I am happy. (Plus I have the best farm neighbors I could ever have)

Later this summer I am going to see my family who are meeting (my family of origin is quite scattered so we are so grateful when we are able to see each other because it happens so infrequently) in the Portland area. It can get hot there too but it really varies. It seems like some Summers are sweltering but sometimes the Summers have mostly comfortable days. Of course, this is the view of someone who has visited regularly but has never lived there. Would love to spend enough time there to visit rural Northern California.

Yes, I often think fondly of the open spaces I experienced during my youth. My family lived in the metro areas of Arizona but got a cabin in the mountains in a small town (I believe it still has less than 1,000 residents but the population temporarily swells during 3 day Summer weekends) when I was 5 years old. We went there nearly every weekend then moved there permanently during my middle school years. I loved the beauty, nature and seasons I experienced there. I was able to roam freely, hiking, horseback bike riding and then was lucky enough to have access to a car when I was 16. My high school was not in the same town (our school district paid tuition to another district) but I have fond memories of "ditching" high school during the late Spring (I didn't do it often but the Spring fever, which made me long to be outside when the weather was beautiful, would get really powerful towards the end of the school year for many of us). When students played hooky at this high school, the meeting places were the lakes down South of the high school or the cold rivers nearby. I am lucky that my Dad gave me access to a vehicle even though I was a careless and fun seeking person. That I survived my fast, careless driving shows me that God was protecting me even way back then. I was very hard on the vehicles I drove (my favorite was an International Scout) but he gave me the means of freedom anyways. I am lucky that he was so patient with me and wish everyone could experience this.

I moved to a different state in May. I don’t like to give out too much information because I’m worried I already have on this site.

@Soupe du jour

Where did you two meet? I had posted this on another group & someone had said they're form Prague, OK. I told them that the only one I was familiar with is the one in the Czech Republic.
