Can be just as bad as alcohol. Outside of moderation, it has negative affects on the body and brain. I’m also thoroughly convinced it’s addictive. ☹️

Yes, it is addictive and can cause anxiety and effect the liver.
We talk about it in Overeaters Anonymous. Some find it helps to completely abstain from sugar. |

I cut way down on my sugar intake. So stuff like bakery stuff like brownies and cake and even cheesecake don’t sound good to me anymore. I like Sonics vanilla ice cream and Quest protein peanut butter cups. I only drink zero sugar soda 98% of the time. Which I know isn’t good either but it helps me lose weight and keeps me from being hungry.
I went through the weight loss section of this site the other day and I noticed several things I was doing before that I’m not doing now that are resulting in weight loss. I cut out regular soda and those giant iced coffees and lattes I was having every morning I stopped eating frozen meals besides the ocassional Amy’s enchilada one And I stopped eating at Taco Bell, Wendy’s, and McDonald’s. I was sometimes eating out twice a day. Plus getting coffee in the morning. __________________ Ridin' with Biden Last edited by Mountaindewed; Jul 22, 2021 at 06:46 AM.. |

I agree for some people it is. The science is still split but most agree that if you have another addiction, have an addictive personality and generally a slower metabolism you have the potential to phyiscally crave it. Also I forget exactly but people with ED's, mental illness and adhd are like 30-50 % more likely to have an addiction.

Cut the sugar way down over the last week…Bp and sleep are getting better again 😑. I am worried i had a bowl of cold cereal this morning for breakfast that wasn’t too sweet. I never add sugar but is ‘Honey Bunches of Oats’ too sweet? It has 11grams of sugar per 8oz cup. 😕

Yes I make an effort to limit my sugar and junk food intake. Lately, it’s helped to take a small amount of chips and put them on my plate, and eat a few chips with each half of my sandwich. Often I can stop eating high sugar foods, but will want to keep eating chips out of the bag or I will want to keep eating French fries, when I should eat half of them. Eating chocolate that has higher percentage of dark chocolate often means less added sugar, and dark chocolate contains magnesium which is good for you. Now I want to research online about the healthiest and best dark chocolate.

I have tried to eat super healthy over the last year and a half or so. To the point it felt like I was only eating rabbit food. I try to avoid sugar, salt and saturated fat. So basically everything enjoyable. When I do get something a little outside of those guidelines, I feel terribly anxious about it, and sometimes it makes me feel physically ill. But eating in moderation doesn't work for my brain. I either need to eat healthy or be prepared for anxiety and thinking I've just poisoned myself and I should prepare to die. Neither way is enjoyable. Uggg. I would kill for pizza and a peanut butter cookie. Or 10.

Agree with comments about dark chocolate. Boosts magnesium levels, especially useful for ladies!
I like Green & Blacks 70%, it's organic. Squares are thicker and smaller than Lindt. It's personal choice but don't like 90%, far too bitter. Supermarket brands don't taste the same despite their claims to have premium ingredients. Enjoy! |

90% is really bitter. 70% sounds good. I'll have to check out Green & Blacks

I find myself reading all food labels….I have been for months…Never concerned me till now…Especially since cutting way back on the sugar…I’m even watching out for all the sugar substitutes including all the words with “ose” in the name like, fructose, glucose, sucrose, etc.
Sugar gets processed and acts very similar to alcohol in the body…The brain also craves sugar as much as it does alcohol whenever either are consumed in excess. Ugh Very easy to go from one addiction to another ☹️☹️☹️ |

I can understand about reading labels. At this point I'm almost afraid to eat anything.

Going from one addiction to another is common. A lot of people in Overeaters Anonymous started in Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous.

Sigh….Still struggling with this sugar thing ☹️ Reading labels and looking for foods with low to ‘no sugar’ seems my biggest occupation when grocery shopping. Trying to justify why I can handle foods of that type, which is fine in moderation….but I tend to overindulge ugh.
I won’t give up. At least I’m not drinking. I’ll eventually have victory over this sugar battle. 😔 |
