Anybody here play or has played any instruments? I played violin in orchestra in grade school and middle school for many years when growing up. I had a lot of fun with it. I would love to play again but it's too loud for my apartment complex and I don't really have the money for lessons which would be necessary since it's been so long since I've played. Also I no longer have a violin and definitely don't have the money to invest in a good quality one right now. Eventually I took a guitar class for a year when I was in high school but I didn't really stick with it. Not because I didn't like it, I just was more into art/drawing at the time. Now I'm learning ukulele. It's nice because it's not super loud and I live in an apartment complex so it's a great instrument to learn without disturbing my neighbors, and it's not super expensive.

Below is a pic of my current soprano ukulele (the 1st pic) the 2nd pic is of the tenor ukulele I just recently ordered

I've sung on and off for the last 22 years. Sitting exams at school in it, passing and going to the next level. I'm a soprano. I sang in the local adult choir when I was a teenager, I sang in a Glee style choir as an adult, I sang solo for my music teacher for the junior years. I was taking lessons in 2020 but covid struck and it all got cancelled. I sang in a recording studio which was epic. Surreal.

I have videos on vimeo and YouTube with my Glee style choir.

I also played the recorder as a kid and was pretty good at it despite unable to read music lol

I played the chello for a few weeks in 5th grade. Then I switched to the viola. I did the whole after school orchestra and summer orchestra stuff. I wasn’t good at it though. Mainly because I never practiced. I remember trying to copy off my friend who also played the viola. I don’t think that worked very well. I quit halfway through 6th grade. But my sister was great at the chello and got asked to perform one time for a midnight mass Christmas service.

I always wished I had taken band instead. I had originally been thinking of the trombone.

I’ve been wanting to learn the harmonica since I was a kid. I tried it a bit. I’d love to be able to play the way the guy does in the song Pot Of Gold. I’ve tried it before with a beginner kids kit I probably got for Christmas. but I just can’t comprehend music and I also can’t stick with any new hobby I try. The only thing I’m mainly into is watching one specific TV show and reading.

My parents made me take piano lessons for 5 or 6 years. I learned to read music, but can't play by ear. In 7th grade, I took one semester of band. I played the clarinet, but didn't do too badly considering we had a concert after only one semester.

After that I switched to choir. But that was hard for me because I'm an alto with no ear for pitch! And I can't hit the high notes so can't be a soprano.

I studied piano in my youth, but stopped when I went to college. When I got married, my mom offered me the piano (a very heavy duty upright), but I simply had no room in my small townhouse, so she sold it and gave me the money. It's sad. I would have taken it if I'd had room for it. I was only "so-so" as a piano player. I was a much better dancer.

I played the piano pretty seriously as a kid and teenager.

Then as an adult I learned to play the harp, which is what I currently play.

I played the guitar in 8th grade I think it was. Back in third grade everyone was supposed to get a band instrument but the guy in charge wouldn’t let my because of my hearing impairment, and I wanted the drum. I can hear drums quite well. Anyway in 7 or 8 grade music appreciation was a requirement. So I picked the guitar. I learned a couple songs then stopped. I can read music but very very slowly, it’s been decades.

Thanks for posting everyone! Feel free to post what you're working on at the moment if you still play/sing

I am currently practicing Christmas songs on my tenor ukulele. I've been posting some videos of myself playing on my Facebook page. I'm hoping to get good at them then post some nice videos around the holidays for family and friends to see.

Took piano lessons starting at 5 years old. Played piano in the grade school orchestra. In junior high, took up flute. Played in the band, then orchestra (got to conduct the opening national anthem for my own junior high graduation). Played flute in high school marching band & concert band.

Went to junior college as a music major. Played flute in junior college marching band & concert band & in a local community orchestra. When I transferred to the university, I realized I could not compete with the outstanding flute players, so changed my major to accounting & computer science. I still kept playing in awesome chamber groups & at churches. I also was temp choir director/music director at the church I went to for awhile. I played my flute until 14 years ago when my professional sterling silver flute was stolen out of my truck & never found (they were actually stealing the bag with ID info out of my truck & had no idea my flute was at the bottom). I gave up on music at that point. Would love to get a dulcimer & learn to play. Who knows what the future holds. I played at the piano still but I only have an electronic keyboard. Left my piano when I left my now EX 14 years ago

Took piano lessons in 5th and 6th grade, and have a piano now and played some last year, and then lost interest. Love singing to the radio when driving to and from the grocery store, but dislike singing in front of others.
