Some of you might remember me posting a couple of months ago about my idiot neighbors who set their pasture, and mine, on fire.
Well, the idiot neighbor on the other side started a fire in his pasture yesterday! He ignored it until it started to spread this afternoon. He finally called the fire department and they put it out. I'm surrounded by morons! |

Downandlonelt, I was more aggravated than scared.
Nammu, I believe there was no thinking involved. These people are morons. Possum, he waited a day before calling the fire department. Nor too bright in my opinion |

question are they a farm of sorts or doing whats called control burns. here in NY we have many small towns and farms where control burns are a must do in order to prevent forest fires, field fires and to promote the health and wellbeing of the land, wild life, domestic animals by ridding lawns, pastures and so forth of invasive and potentially harmful weeds and growth that lawn mowers and other equipment cannot control.
there are ways to make your borders of your property fire resistant. cement decorative wall, doesnt have to be high just a couple feet stops fire from progressing / jumping. removing any trees and grass a foot to two around the property borders and placing decorative stone or gravel, or a cement path. your fire department can explain more fire safety things that can be done to your property to make it fire safe while at the same time gives your neighbors the ability to do their control burning. by the way control burns do not always need someone standing right there watching, it depends upon what is being burned, some things burn faster than others and some just create a heck of a lot of smoke but barely moves and how much of the property needs to be cleaned out by fire for the safety of the home and animals and pastures. I have many friends and family that do control burns of their horse pastures, and fields. another suggestion - if I remember right you have PTSD problems related to fires from when your homes burnt. maybe you can talk with your treatment providers on how to handle living next door to two neighbors that do control burns that you feel may get out of control, and sometimes the neighbors fires do get out of control, what you can do when that happens. another suggestion keep your fire departments phone number listed somewhere so that if at any time .......you......... feel a fire is getting out of control you can call regardless of if your neighbors have called. enough phone calls to the fire department and they have to do an education routine with the neighbors including contacting the fire department .....BEFORE.... they do any control burning on their property. |

Amanda, I live in the absolute goodie boonies. I'm aware of controlled burns. Many of the local cattle ranchers to them to burn off the old dead stuff and promote healthy new growth. Neither of the neighbors' fires were controlled burns. The first one was caused by the neighbor catching his grass on fire with his mower. His "solution" was to stand in the middle of the field and scream obscenities. I called 911 that time.
The recent fire was not a controlled burn either. In that case either an old rotten pile of hay spontaneously combusted or the ejit set the hay on fire intentionally. I don't know who called the fire department this time. They showed up as I was getting ready to call 911. Thank you for your suggestions, I have been county girl for a l-o-o-ong time. I know how to protect my property. I don't have a problem with the local farmers doing controlled burns. They know what they are doing and control the fire. Operative word here is "controlled". It's my peace brained neighbors who have no idea what the F they are doing that get my goat. Last edited by lizardlady; May 03, 2022 at 06:04 PM.. |

Any burns in our area are supposed to be called into dispatch, even burn piles. We have times fires can be done between sunset & dawn (never grasped that concept because staying awake all night to make sure my fire is ok, not something I would want to do).
We have definitely had some around that got out of control & yes, hay will combust quickly. Had a neighbor lose a barn that way. So not into fires being from So. CALIF. even bonfires are not on my to do list __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. We went everywhere together like this.
