This is going to sound ridiculous but over the years I've become a technologically challenged, technological hermit.

I've never understood Amazon shopping but some people swear by it...I am hoping to get some pointers on how to shop on Amazon.

See, it all started this evening when I tried to buy a phone and accidentally signed up for a thirty day trial of Amazon Prime. So I decided to do all my Christmas shopping on Amazon (to not waste the free trial), but I have no idea where to begin.

I'm someone who likes to shop in person, and I've never figured out how to shop or look for products on Amazon. I'm just sitting here staring at Amazon going "well, crap, where do I begin?"

Some pointers on how to shop on Amazon will be so helpful!!!

You can put whatever you want in a search, including gift ideas, and things will pop up. Use search feature on there
Thanks for this!

step 1... go to amazon dot com

Step 2 make an account (register like you would any other website you want to be a member of)

Step 3 go to your email account to "verify" your amazon account.

Step 4. type in the amazon search bar any thing you are looking to buy.

step 5 select the items by clicking on place in cart, just like if you went shopping in a store you have a cart.

Step 6 when done shopping click on to check out, or buy now.

what ever payment arrangement you make amazon will automatically take your payment.

then its just a matter of watching your email for the notices and tracking information. they tell you if your items have been shipped, where they are along the way and when they are delivered.

The app itself will start giving you gift suggestions, for like different departments, just like you were in a store: clothing, jewelry, etc.

I agree with the other posters posts!

Just fyi if you don't know: if don't want to pay for prime after the month ends, you have to cancel your prime membership before the free trial ends. You will still be able to get the benefits of prime after cancelling through the month you are signed up.

Enjoy Christmas shopping! I love giving gifts.

You can put “gifts” in the search line and it will prompt you to pick a category, women, men, kids, different ages for kids. Or if you have an idea say “spa stuff” and it will show up. Then Amazon will send you suggestions based on your browsing history.

You can pay via either a credit card or a Visa Debit card. As you log out it, will ask you for your payment info, and you just enter it.

You can get almost anything on Amazon.

Have fun shopping.

I just put what I want in search. I like to filter by user ratings so I get the stuff with the highest ratings. There is some cheap junk on there, so the ratings help.

I used to go by "ratings" but then discovered that there are companies that pay people to go on sites like amazon and others and post reviews and ratings with out even trying the products.

I now base my shopping on what .....my own and my families.... individual views, wants and needs. if I do end up getting something that is not what I expected amazon does have a free returns policy where you contact them, tell them what is wrong with the product and return the product and they refund your money. just like if you go to a store, purchase something and then find out its defective you have so much time to return it for your money back or store credit.

I could actually care less that this person thought it was a good product and that one thought it was trash. what matters to me is my own family and if the product suits my family well or not.

I think of it this way... why would I let someone else decide what is best for me or not right for me. thats what going by ratings means to me, someone else deciding for me that a product I havent even tried yet is good or bad for me. Id rather make up my own mind.

I also read reviews on each product I consider.

Amazon is easy to return, depending on your area there are many places you can just drop it off (ups, certain stores etc)

Also if you sign up for Amazon shopping card (their own credit card) you accumulate points. I think 5% of purchases are coming back to you to apply to next purchase. It’s not as scary as other credit cards as you can only use it on Amazon and limit is typically low

If you signed up for prime you have access to prime video. A ton of shows and movies to watch for free (well included in your prime membership). You access it from your account on there

It's actually really easy...I've found most gifts by typing in "gifts for mom, gifts for dad," etc...cyz then I see something and go oh that's nice, but what about this, and type in something similar and look at all the things....or like today I found some okay things for dad but then I thought wait he likes UnderArmor...oh look! Grunt Style! So I am having fun with it.

Glad you're having fun. I really like some of the shows that come with Prime too. Check out The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel if you get a chance.

if you want toys for a boy or girl just put in age range 7 to 9 girl toys for example. it will show a variety of things. whatever your thoughts are like auto parts put in the specific auto Ford brake pads for example. it may ask more specific questions like year and type of car. but it all starts with a search.
