Have you ever stopped to think about the people going about their work whilst you're asleep?

A friend works for a large Middle East airline. By the time I looked at my e-mails this morning, he was well on his way to a European destination. Due to modern technology, I was able to track his flight and watch him land.

The message that got me thinking about this topic arrived in my inbox at 02:50 (my time) when he was on his way to the airport.

It is amazing just what is going on around the world....

Yes, I do think about that. And whenever I've traveled I think about how I'm in a different space and time than the people where I live are. It's a busy world.

When I'm awake in bed or it's late at night, I think of the other people in the apartment building. They are unconscious, asleep. I feel like I am alone in the building, and anything could happen and nobody would know because....they are asleep. I find it unnerving.

I live on a small farm with woods. Lots of critters wandering around while I sleep....just the way life is....I work on my farm while they sleep. Usually it is not something I concern myself with though cause there is nothing I can do about it anyway

I start work very early so most people are asleep as I make my way to work, I go to bed early too so it’s the opposite way around.

When I was a new mother getting up for night feeds our health visitor said to me to imagine all the different homes where other people were also up feeding babies, it was a strangely comforting thought, she was a wise woman!
