Omg, BethRags! That sounds like paradise on a plate! Came here to say you canít beat a classic Victoria sponge but of course, thereís always something fancier out there. But it is still my favourite. A close second is birthday cake (not chocolate, though).

Yes, the champagne cake is paradise on a plate. It reminds me of a fine wedding cake. I'm headed over to the bakery today to buy some macarons...I'm hoping they don't have any champagne cake today

Me too, Iíve never had some of these delicious sounding cakes. Makes me wish I still lived in a city with a bakery.

Some time ago I found out that cakes, cookies, etc. can be ordered from some bakeries that do mail order. They pack the stuff so it stays fresh. Once a friend sent a King Cake to me from New Orleans, during Mardi Gras. Pretty awesome! And the cake was entirely fresh.

Layered almond essence sponge cake with vanilla flavored whipped cream and raspberry preserves fillings topped with a sheet of rolled out marzipan.
