Personally, I don't believe computers have feelings (yet.) At least mine doesn't. It's too old. But computers with feelings probably aren't far off. Perhaps they even do already exist somewhere?

What a wonderful thread!! I wonder things like this all the time, since I was little. In a way, we are machines, cordless, not requiring gasoline, because we use the chemicals from food. Our brains are unbelievable computers. My car isn't working right now & I'll have to wait to get her fixed. But she is such a sweet lady. The car I had before her was a boy, with no computer, just understanding from my feet & hands, & he knew I needed him & hung in there longer than he should have. I don't have a computer (just this phone), but I look forward to that relationship. Think about this, that we are made of atoms, like everything else. Supposedly, we have the "right" atoms & they are arranged a special way so we can be alive. But to me, the atoms seem awfully smart, & I think they are alive! I love them. And if we feel a special bond with something that reportedly isn't alive but we feel they are alive, make fun of us if you want to. I think God totally understands & is pleased.

This computer design engineer says computers do NOT have feelings.
You want computers that have been programmed to express what looks like feelings then you get into AI. That is where computers are programmed to learn from their experiences. Programmers blow it with programs & there are bugs in them that make them break but those are not "feelings" Inannimate objects do not have feelings & if a computer looks like it, a programmer has programmed it to respond that way if it is not AI __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. True, some people think that pets/animals dont have feelings, but you only have to spend a lot of time with a pet/animal to know they have the same emotions we do, they can feel fear and pain and happiness and sadness So with that being the case, thats why i get confused over whether cars and computers etc have feelings, cause like pets they communicate their feelings to us My car, Casey Junior, is a good girl, she just doesnt like gripping on gravel or going up too big a hill She gets thank you pats like a horse when she gets me places without a problem and cause i do that, she does get me to and from where i need to be |

Casey Junior responds to her name in the same way a cat or a dog does, only with her engine noise
I named her after the train from Dumbo cause theres a scaene in Dumbo where Casey Junior the train is trying to get up a hill and is like "i think i can i think i can i could i could WHOHOO" i'll edit this in a second to add that scene if i can find it on youtube a bit of the scene (at the beginning) is the elephants being mean to Dumbo, just to warn everyone Dumbo Casey Jr I Think I Can - YouTube Last edited by Anonymous32448; May 04, 2022 at 09:10 AM.. Personally, I think & feel that trees (who are loved by tree-huggers), & other kinds of plants, have feelings. They even prefer certain kinds of music over others (scientifically verified.) When I feel love for a tree or group of flowers, etc., I remember that they have their lives, just like I have my life. What is life? This could be a very long discussion.

What part of you creates feelings? Your mind. Plants do not have brains. It has also been studied that certain vibration cycles of which music & talking creates (sound waves) does have an effect on the fluids within other things.....but that is hardly about feelings.

Anthropomorphism has been used as a story telling device for thousands of years but it doesn’t mean non human objects have human feeling or thinking. Yes plant react to stimulus but that doesn’t make it a human feeling.

Computers have a brain though, so plants must have plant brain somewhere Cause a computer thinks about what it's doing when it's making stuff come up cause it does the twirly whirly thing on the screen when it's thinking and will sometimes say what percentage it's done of the task Plants seek out the sunshine so it must be able to recognise for itself in its brain where the sun is? |

No, however Google Directions once stated she did to my husband and me. We were using it to navigate around an unfamiliar area when Google Directions stated to head "southeast". My husband didn't know which direction that would be so yelled in response "How the h*ll do I know which direction is southeast!"
Immediately, the Google Directions female voice said "I have feelings, too!" which utterly stunned us, to say the least, which prompted me to state "I'm sorry! I realize you have feelings." Regardless, "she" (obviously she's not a living being) proceeded to take us the wrong way for several roads, until we abandoned her and switched to another navigation option (mapy.cz). The above story was a result of an "Easter Egg", which is a secret response programmed into software that is triggered by a certain set of commands. The Easter Egg in this case (for Google Directions) was my husband's angry statement. I'm unsure if it would always trigger the Easter Egg, unless the other preceding factors were just right. Either way, this was only mildly funny, in the end. The programmed plan to take us in the wrong directions could have been dangerous, in a sense. What if we were running out of gas, trying to get somewhere in an emergency, or the like? Though we weren't, it was a big inconvenience. Not professional on Google's part. Normally we use our Tom Tom, but if we ever use Google Directions again and this happens again, we'll immediately switch to another navigation tool. __________________ Dx: Bipolar type 1 Psych Medications: * Tegretol XR (carbamazepine ER) 800 mg * Lamictal (lamotrigine) 150 mg * Seroquel XR (quetiapine ER) 600 mg I also take meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, and tachycardia. |
