Is it offensive to another person when i struggle to spell a word, and sometimes i literally cannot spell the word at all? idk

Example word: psychriatric (spellchecker i know i spelled it wrong, i spelled it how i spell it when i have to use it in typing, red line time cause i spelled it wrong and spellchecker is yelling at me cause im the word that begins with stu and ends with pid and a bad person for spelling stuff wrong)

I don't find misspellings offensive.

I also don't think having trouble spelling is any indication of how "good" or "bad" of a person they are.

I get annoyed when people act like the grammar police and when they can't see through simple spelling mistakes and make a big deal out of it. Its annoying

You are fine.

Personally I think it is respectful of others to try, to the best of your ability, to spell correctly. But it's not a huge deal either if you miss one from time-to-time. I certainly don't find it offensive. I'm quite sure I've misspelled my share of words in my time here on MSF.

I spell words wrong & I won spelling bees growing up

Definitely NOT any indication of being stu-pid.

Also, who cares what is offensive or not, some people get offended by everything, so the term "offended" has become meaningless to me. Definitely not something to be concerned about in a world where it seems everyone is offended by something.

We all have our talents & struggles. It is life & those unwilling to accept that need to be irrelevant to our lives

Unless you do it on purpose, it’s not offensive

it's not a problem at all, misspelling is something everyone has issues with somewhere along the line. If someone takes offence I would be inclined to think they're been snobbish about grammar.

I think what people say is way more important than how they spell it. People may struggle with spelling for many reasons, they could have dyslexia or they may have had certain issues in the education system- any sensible person will understand that.

PS I struggled with spelling much of my life owing to a now discredited teaching technique used when I was learning to read, it was called ITA - in adulthood I feel a sense of kinship with those who went through the same teaching system.

I work as a professional writer/translator and use three different languages regularly. Even I have some words in each language that always give me trouble for some reason. I type what I think it should be and let spellcheck fix it. Bureaucracy and anesthesia are a few that come to mind.

It's not offensive at all. No one is perfect with these things. Maybe you can take it as a learning experience to check the correct spelling and try to remember it.
