My heart goes out to the folks in Puerto Rico and eastern Canada. Hurricane Fiona hammered both places. Poor Puerto Rico is still trying to recover from Maria.
Tropical Storm Ian is near Jamaica and headed for the Gulf. It's predicted to strengthen to a major hurricane before it makes landfall in the States. I don't know why, but Ian has me spooked. I stock up on hurricane supplies at the start of the season so that's not a problem. (Side note - I did my weekly grocery shopping Friday. People were stripping the shelves of water and TP.) I picked up things that could blow around from the yard yesterday. Still need to bring in my hanging plants, but am watching to see if the storm heads this way before I do. I have 28 hanging plants in the yard. Would rather not have haul them in if I don't have to. Inspire of all that I'm still spooked. I've lived hear long enough to know how to prepare and I have. Still.... Actually, typing this out I think I've figured out what has me worried. I live in a double wide mobile. I have no place to evacuate to. I sold my mom's house where I used to go. Second choice was my friend's family home. No longer an option since she died. Six cats and a 75 pound dog rules out a shelter or hotel. Before anyone suggests it, there is no way in Hades I would evacuate and leave the critters behind. Okay, time to use self-care. I have, or will, taken care of everything I can control. I have absolutely no control over the path of the storm. Lack of control is a major trigger for me. Going to keep reminding myself to focus on what I can control and try not to freak about what I can't. |

Hope you stay safe @lizardlady.
I was in Houston for Hurricane Harvey. I was lucky that my area didn't flood and I didn't even lose electricity or running water. A lot of people lost everything because they didn't have flood insurance. I felt for them. |

This looks impossible to plan for at this point per the various radars. That spaghetti prediction is insane. Can you build an underground bunker?

Una, I actually investigated that. My fear was something would fall on door and trap me.

Officials just ordered mandatory evacuation for low lying areas in nearest major city.
I've decided to see if I can fit all six cat carriers and the dog in the truck. Plan is still to try and ride it out here at home, but going to have plan b if it looks like it's going ashore near me as a cat 3 or higher. Keep us in your thoughts please. I'm trying not to freak. |

Thanks.
I decided to start looking for hotels that will accept pets. Not sure the will allow six cats and 75 pound pit bull cross. |

Thanks Una. I found a pet friendly hotel about 10 miles from where I live. They are suspending limit on number of pets during evacuation. Bless their souls. I booked a room for the crew and me for tomorrow night. Am going to see about extending that until Thursday. Current prediction for worst weather here is Wednesday into Thursday.

I am exhausted and sore from all the clean up around the property. Am also royally pissed. It's my own damned fault. No one held a gun to my head, but a couple of friends kept calling me and telling me to evacuate. I wanted to wait until later in the day to decide when to leave. I let myself get swept up in their panic and reserved a room for tomorrow night. That's when the storm was scheduled to reach this area this morning. Now the damned thing is stalled (they do that) and not expected to get here until Wednesday/Thursday. Tried to extend my reservation, but could not.
I have friends who live in Vermont, but have a house north of me. I canceled my hotel reservation and am going to go to their house. I've been through plenty of hurricanes and don't usually freak out about them. This one has me spooked. |

I have everything in the truck except the cats. Sean tried to rip my arm off when I went to put him in his carrier. Mikey has gone into hiding. I am exhausted from all the work prepping for the storm and packing the truck. Fibro is killing me. I've decided to stay home tonight and leave first thing in the morning. The storm is not scheduled to get here until tomorrow evening. If I leave first thing I will be gone long before it gets here.
When Mikey comes out of hiding I will stuff him in his carrier. He can spend the night there. |

My prayers are with you and all affected by the hurricanes. There's always talk about 'quakes out here, but it seems to me that the yearly hurricanes are far more common and devastating.

Thanks Beth. I'm not sure which is worse, earthquakes or hurricanes. At least with hurricanes we get days notice to prepare. The idea of the ground suddenly starting to shake scares the beejeebers out of me. Both can be horribly destructive though.

Sounds like you’ve got it under control. Here’s good vibes that the fibro calms down tonight so the drive won’t be to bad.

Another change of plans.
The storm's path changed again overnight. It is going to make landfall further south of me. I've decided to ride it out here at home. The storm is far enough south of me it should be safe. If it makes a jig north I will still have time to leave. I have all the things to take with stacked by the front door or already in the truck. If I decide to leave all I'll have to do is throw stuff in the truck and go. Cats are either in carriers or locked in the bathroom so I can catch them to put them in carriers. I tricked them this morning at breakfast. Sean has been very vocal cursing meme. I believe I heard him say "we hates it forever." I mentioned in my reply to Beth that we get days of warning before a hurricane. That's a double edged thing. On the plus side we have days of warning to pick up stuff outside and make plans to evacuate. On the flip side we have days of tracking the storm wondering where the damned thing is going to go. Witness Ian... first it was headed toward the panhandle. Then it was headed up Tampa Bay. Now it's taken aim on southwest Florida. That part of the state is low and flat, plus the storm is just shy of a cat 5 storm. That area will get hammered. In terms of self care a large part of my anxiety is way less because it seems we know where the storm is headed. I've done everything I can to prepare, including a plan B to evacuate, if need be. I'm limiting how much TV I'm watching related to the storm. News folks get hysterical reporting this sort of thing. I plan to binge watch DVDs today. |
