@sunnylowkey, have a wonderful time!

I've never been to Madrid, but have visited Paris, Barcelona, and Lisbon. All great cities! Paris and Lisbon have a special place in my heart.

I had been to Paris a few times before, but the last time I went was during the height of the covid pandemic. I finally went to the Louvre. It was a unique experience seeing that wonderful museum. Almost no one was there because of the pandemic. At one point, my husband and I were the only people in the room that had Da Vinci's painting of the Mona Lisa, and even other rooms. I imagine the museum will be crowded when you go. Maybe consider buying the tickets online, ahead of time, to avoid long lines.

My favorite thing in Barcelona was the Joan Miro museum/foundation. I love Miro's art (own two prints), plus it is located on a high hill with a spectacular view of the sea and a lovely large park around it. If interested, see Joan Miro Collection | Fundacio Joan Miro We had to take a taxi to/from there. Again, good to book tickets ahead of time.

I was the most impressed with Rodin museum in Paris. It’s literally in his house where he lived. You walk in and here they are. His sculptures. I was out of breath. I couldn’t even believe it. I’ve seen his sculptures before in other settings but seeing it in his house and his garden… I can’t describe. Big museums are overwhelming but it was small as it’s in a residential house so not overwhelming and not exhausting. I again saw Rodins exhibit in London in 2021 right when they opened borders. Again breathtaking. I can’t wrap my mind around sculpting. How one can do it…

I’ve not been in Spain or Portugal but maybe some day….

Wow, Rodin's house - that sounds amazing!

I saw sculptures done by Gauguin in Paris. I had never heard anything about his sculptures and had no idea he had done them. Also, wood carvings.

I had a somewhat similar feeling when I visited one of Beethoven's houses, in a quiet part of Vienna. It was a spot that made me "feel him" and what he most loved about the place. I nearly cried. It was set up as a museum, but not so much that it didn't feel like a home. This was in stark contrast to the more frequented Mozart apartment downtown. I was quite disappointed in the Mozart museum's contents. Both were visited during the pandemic, so nearly empty. One must be a major league classical music fan to appreciate these.

I've seen Rodin's art in museums (Philadelphia has an excellent one) but never his house. Will keep that in mind for the future. Thanks!

For *Beth*:

"Blue Roads" are the older, secondary roads. They are almost always blue, on maps. In other words, we avoid the highways.

I did travel for Thanksgiving. I then am going on a small overnight trip on Wednesday. I am so tired of traveling and hotels to be honest.

@*Beth* I liked it but I had anxiety going up the glass staircase. It was a good view but too much for my fear of heights. We took the elevator back down.

The house from A Christmas Story was 10 minutes away so we took a tour of that afterwards. Too bad they are selling the house, museum, and gift shop. I got some great pictures though.

Is it strange that I don't remember creating this thread? Ha. I really have no recollection of it. Not to hijack the direction of the thread or anything, but... Hm. I still am going to Argentina though. I am pretty nervous about it, to tell the truth.

I've created threads I had zero memory of creating. It happens. I've heard only good things about Argentina. When are you going?

Lol. What's even stranger is that I remember creating this thread and now my original post has disappeared. I wonder what could have happened?.

I hope your trip goes well.

Next sunny/warmish day I'm traveling about an hour South to do some hiking where it's not covered in snow and ice yet.

My family has been planning for a year to go to Hawaii's Big Island for Christmas.

The volcano activity might cramp our style, but as far as I know, they'll still let us go.

I think it’s a community thread-like social chats where everyone is asked to share something or like a game. They are sometimes created by moderators if the original posters cannot or aren’t allowed to make community threads. You might have been the first poster to reply to original post so it appears as you created it.

Are you already in Argentina or still in the US? I’d love to see South America. Would be so interesting. How long are you staying? I know you used to live there
