I've traveled extensively throughout my life for pleasure, work, and studies. Too many countries to list, plus too many US states to mention. Travel was always a passion of mine, and what my husband and I spent good chunks of our savings on. We never had any children, so it made it easier to do so. I am an American currently living in Central Europe. It's not that difficult for us to get to another country within Europe. We can drive to the German border in fewer than 2 hours and Austria, Slovakia, and Poland borders in approximately 3 hours. We recently moved from the south of the country where Austria and Slovakia were even much closer. Flights are relatively short to most other European countries.
It's likely that my husband will want to ski this winter. There is some good skiing in our current country of residence, but better skiing is in Austria. Many people head there for that. With pain I must write that a trip home to the US is a possibility this year. Pain because my brother is very very ill. It wouldn't be a pleasant visit. We were in the US for a visit this past April. My father turned 80. __________________ Dx: Bipolar type 1 Psych Medications: * Tegretol XR (carbamazepine ER) 800 mg * Lamictal (lamotrigine) 150 mg * Seroquel XR (quetiapine ER) 600 mg I also take meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, and tachycardia. |

@shakespeare47, I hope you have a great time in "the city" as New Jerseyans simply call it. That is unless you live closer to Philadelphia, when that becomes "the city". It's definitely a travel experience most Americans should see. It's pretty amazing, yet certainly does have some negative aspects. If your trip is for pleasure, I'd stick to the attractions within.
@hundalmarck, have a great time in Switzerland. Beautiful country! @WastingAsparagus, I'm a bit jealous of your trip to Argentina. I've never been. My husband and I are most interested in someday seeing parts of Patagonia. __________________ Dx: Bipolar type 1 Psych Medications: * Tegretol XR (carbamazepine ER) 800 mg * Lamictal (lamotrigine) 150 mg * Seroquel XR (quetiapine ER) 600 mg I also take meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, and tachycardia. |

I also visited in 1986 or 1987 while I was on a break from school. That time I visited the United Nations building and the World Trade Center. I've always wanted to see the Statue of Liberty - and it looks like I"ll be able to do it this time. I may also check out Freedom Tower and the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. __________________ My business is to teach my aspirations to conform themselves to fact, not to try and make facts harmonise with my aspirations. My husband and I took our nephew to the top of the WTC only three weeks before the towers came down. A bike ride through Central Park is also nice. They rent e-bikes all around it. Hubby and I rented a couple when there in April. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA and the Gugenheim Museum are always great. The Circle Line ferry circles all of Manhattan offering amazing views, if interested. That could be in addition to your visit to the Statue of Liberty. Trivia Fact: The Statue of Liberty is the property of New York, but actually sits in New Jersey waters. __________________ Dx: Bipolar type 1 Psych Medications: * Tegretol XR (carbamazepine ER) 800 mg * Lamictal (lamotrigine) 150 mg * Seroquel XR (quetiapine ER) 600 mg I also take meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, and tachycardia. |

I'm planning to travel to Europe this winter. I'm going to visit Paris, Barcelona, Madrid and Lisbon. I'm very excited about it. I have always wanted to see the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum. I'm also interested in learning about the cultures of other countries. I think it will be a great experience.

I've never been to Madrid, but have visited Paris, Barcelona, and Lisbon. All great cities! Paris and Lisbon have a special place in my heart. I had been to Paris a few times before, but the last time I went was during the height of the covid pandemic. I finally went to the Louvre. It was a unique experience seeing that wonderful museum. Almost no one was there because of the pandemic. At one point, my husband and I were the only people in the room that had Da Vinci's painting of the Mona Lisa, and even other rooms. I imagine the museum will be crowded when you go. Maybe consider buying the tickets online, ahead of time, to avoid long lines. My favorite thing in Barcelona was the Joan Miro museum/foundation. I love Miro's art (own two prints), plus it is located on a high hill with a spectacular view of the sea and a lovely large park around it. If interested, see Joan Miro Collection | Fundacio Joan Miro We had to take a taxi to/from there. Again, good to book tickets ahead of time. __________________ Dx: Bipolar type 1 Psych Medications: * Tegretol XR (carbamazepine ER) 800 mg * Lamictal (lamotrigine) 150 mg * Seroquel XR (quetiapine ER) 600 mg I also take meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, and tachycardia. This is weird. I like the idea of traveling, but don't want to be away from home. There are places I would love to see, but don't want to be away from my fur babies and the farm.

I used to travel every chance I got. Husband and I were fond of taking day trips and finding new ways to get places (taking the 'Blue Roads').
After a long hiatus from travelling, I'd love to ease back into it. Loved, loved, loved NYC; loved the energy of the place. Have been there 4 times. I have been to the SW United States (Colorado, and Northern New Mexico), and fell in love with it. I've been to the Rockies, and fell in love with them. Have been to Greece, and it still fills me with wondrous adoration, that place. ANY trip, no matter how small, would be an absolute blast right now. |

I too visited NYC,WTC just days before that tragedy.I watched the same twin towers ( one in flames, and the other getting hit while I watched live) on tv that morning crumble down with horror and disbelief. Since then NYC became a trigger word for me.I may visit Niagara falls 2023 summer.

I've only been to California and Oregon...I have not done much exploring of Oregon yet.
I'm very timid about travelling. On dating apps I get turned off and swipe no to people who say they've done extensive travelling. I can't really explain why. I do however have a long list of places I want to travel. Queensland Zoo The Smithsonian Museum Times Square on New Year's Eve Maine The Grand Canyon Yosemite Paris, France Graceland Auschwitz Europe Japan Toronto, Canada The Library of Congress The White House Louisiana India London Buckingham Palace Ireland I'd like to visit a lot of libraries around the world and try different cuisine and see different museums and art from around the world. |

@*Beth* I liked it but I had anxiety going up the glass staircase. It was a good view but too much for my fear of heights. We took the elevator back down.
The house from A Christmas Story was 10 minutes away so we took a tour of that afterwards. Too bad they are selling the house, museum, and gift shop. I got some great pictures though. __________________ Ridin' with Biden |

I absolutely love to travel, I feel I'm in my element when I travel. The feeling of riding in a car or on a plane feels fabulous to me.
I guess we're listing places we've been, so....I live in California and have traveled my state, which is very large - about 800 miles long. The geography of Calif is so diverse, so magnificent; I can't go into it all here. I'll touch on the cities. Los Angeles is...what can I say...its own world. An experience. A bizarre fantasy-land. Hollywood is part of L.A. Unless you are "somebody" and well-protected by barriers and cops when your limo pulls up to the theater or wherever you're going, or unless you're in a car, Hollywood is a truly bizarre place. I have never been afraid anywhere I've traveled except in Hollywood. Anything can happen on those streets. Terrifying. San Diego is paradise - almost too perfect. I don't so much like it there. San Francisco remains the most truly beautiful city I've ever seen and I've been there whenever possible in my life. The ocean is everything, everything. I grew up and lived until my 50's in our state capital, Sacramento. Sac is a lovely city in many ways; extremely culturally diverse. The Redwoods in NorCal are astounding. Let's see. My family came out here from Brooklyn shortly before I was born and NYC feels like home to me. I am in love with that city. And yeah, there are all the tourist sites, which are important - but nothing beats a good, long ride on the subway and one of the most spiritual times of my life was one night when I rode the subway from upper Manhattan to Battery Park, where I looked out and saw the Statue of Liberty. I was alone, it was midnight, and no- I was not at all afraid. An unforgettable experience. I've traveled in the States throughout the Midwest, the south, the southwest (Texas, haha, what a state). And north to Oregon. I found Nevada and Utah to be far more beguiling that the Rockies, which I was disappointed in because the trees are so small compared to trees in California. Globally, I lived in Israel on a kibbutz for 2 months. The kibbutz was within miles of the Gaza Strip. What can I say...from my apartment windows I saw bomb shelters. The ancientness of Israel is almost, mostly is, overwhelming. Jerusalem (the Old City) is absolutely fascinating. Israel is, above all else, a war zone, I did not travel as a tourist, but as just a person. I would not recommend Israel to anyone from the western world because it will blow your mind like a bad acid trip does. Besides those places- Germany and France. The architecture of Paris is remarkable. Sadly, Paris is not the place it once was. Ireland! I adored Ireland and could easily live there. I've never met such sweet, kind people as I did in Ireland, especially coming from California where people are generally so unfriendly. And the land of Ireland is magical, enchanting, a fairy-tale land. Where do I want to go? The UK. And back to Ireland. There is never a time when I don't want to travel, but doing so at this point in my life is impossible. Maybe in the future. I hope so. __________________ |

Oh, I'm so glad! And that your son could be with you is especially wonderful. Staying in NJ and riving in was a smart idea, I think.
What did you think of the 9/11 Memorial? __________________ |

I got chills when I saw it. I was home on the day of the attacks and watched the events unfold for most of the day. It was just such a terrible tragedy - I'm glad they created the museum - we need to remember the people who lost their lives in the attacks and in the rescue attempts.
