Very, very briefly:
Rosh Hashanah, or “Head of the Year,” is the Jewish New Year, starting at sunset and continuing for two days. On Rosh Hashanah, Jews attend religious services and celebratory meals. Rosh Hashanah also marks the beginning of the Ten Days of the High Holidays, which conclude on Yom Kippur.

The High Holidays fall in either September or October.

I was quite hungry in Paris on my first Sunday there, because the only markets that are open are teeny-tiny Arab-run markets with very little food. All markets and many restaurants are closed. The upscale ones (some are open), well, just too expensive for me.

Yeah the “real time” for buses aren’t always accurate here and even the drivers told me that.

I also like spring the best because I hate the heat and cold. Spring is just right with mild days and cool nights.

I used to get out my tiny tree with lights but years ago the cheap lights all quit working. By that time I hated the holidays and didn’t want to buy new lights. My snowman lamp still works. He’s cute and getting him out tomorrow. He represents not just the holidays but winter.

Yeah I've heard of that holiday and I believe there's another similar one that celebrates the spring season and I believe that's in May. Also seasonal decorations are nice and I know lots of people that use those instead of decorations that are holiday specific.

Yeah I can see how not having anyone to get together with can make any holiday feel lonely.

Yet our culture makes everything about family and days off for every freaking holiday or holiday weekend, heaven forbid. And not everyone gets holidays off! It all depends on many factors.

Yep exactly and that’s what turns a lot of people off. If it wasn’t so commercialized and people didn’t look down on your for spending quality time with others or buying gifts then the holidays would be more enjoyable.

Agree! A lady in my book club asked me point blank what am I doing for the holidays. Sigh… Why I must be DOING something? I told her point blank nothing and I hate the holidays. That ended that. Most and least favorite holiday

On a related note someone noticed I had a birthday recently and she asked did I do anything special like go to dinner? I said no and she pressed did I at least see a good movie? I know she meant no harm but I wonder if she truly cared.

Gosh I wish I could hibernate, like a bear, until January 15th at least. Or until the hype about family and friends dies down.

Oh yes I agree and I wish I could hibernate too. I think more people would choose to hibernate during the holidays if it was possible. Most people generally don't seem happy and it shows even at work where people are quietly admitting they can't wait for it to be January and everything to go back to normal. Also I hate it when people press about what I'm doing during my birthday too since I treat it as any other day.

I mostly try to treat it like any day because I don’t have a choice. If I had someone I’d like to be doing something. It fell on grocery shopping day and I didn’t want to make it “that” normal so I did it the previous day. It’s a chore so didn’t want to do it that day.

Tried to make it like a self-care day.

Rdgrad you might find this thread interesting:

Can We Talk About This? (It's the Season)

Now that it seems I figured out how to post links on a phone I’ll post the link to this in that thread.
