The oldest thing I own is a wooden "jesus fish statue" from the 70s--it's a wooden statue of a fish with the words of Jesus on it, the "IXOYE". My grandma gave it to me.

The second oldest is a cross necklace emblem from my great grandma...not sure how old it is, at least 40+ years old.

What is the oldest thing you own?

Somewhere in the stuff I brought from Mom's house are my first pair of baby shoes and the bracelet from my wrist in the hospital when I was born.

The oldest think I have with personal meaning to me is my stuffed kitty I got when I was an Itty bitty. I rediscovered him buried in a shed yesterday. He is squished and ragged looking. I tossed him on the trash pile yesterday. I regained my senses today and will rescue him tomorrow.

My oldest possessions with personal meaning are my 26 year old stuffed animal monkey which was my brother's that I swore to protect for life and my pink camo backpack which is 24 years old--both were saved from two fires: a wildfire and a house fire and both lived to tell the tale.

A few low value coins from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Would love to buy an old Roman coin [many of which are apparently not prohibitively expensive] but there are unfortunately a lot of fakes out there. Would love to hold something that old in my hands. Somehow therapeutic I think it might be. I'd like to own a verified piece of a meterorite as well. Again...unfortunately, many fakes. Perhaps I'll look into it anyway. Due diligence and all.

The oldest thing I own (great question btw, LL!) is a stunning black velvet tunic length (but fitted, it's about a size 6) jacket with a hot pink silk lining and beadwork that runs along the length of the zipper in front. I can't exactly recall, but I don't think the zipper still works. My father gave it to my mother when they were first married in 1944. I used to wear it when I was in high school. The silk is tearing/disintegrating a bit, though.

It’s a thick long heavy fabric trench coat from the 60s. Still in mint condition!

I guess if it is just me (not my husband and me, together), it's a wooden chest that an appraiser said dates to likely 1720. From my mother's side of the family. If my husband and me together, we have a Czech coin dating back to the 1300s that we bought in the town of Kutna Hora. It's not very valuable, as one might think. I think we bought it at a museum there for around the equivalent of $15, maybe 25 years ago, or so.

Love this topic and replies.

Personal object which is oldest is probably my old threadbare Teddy bear who was a cousin’s before mine and must be around 60 years old.

Joint oldest object is the sole from a Roman sandal- not sure how old but at least over 1,500 years which sounds weird writing it out. Lots of Roman digs locally and so things like these aren’t too uncommon. Husband was given this by a friend working on a dig in the 80s I think, stuff like this was preserved by the mud.

Some family jewellery that I inherited from my grandmother, easily 150+ years old.

Second oldest, 2 embroideries I did when I was about 10 or 11. I keep them because they remind me of my Mom. I remember sitting beside her in her craft room embroidering, before she got sick.

Well... I'm tempted to say the oldest thing I own is myself! But, no, the oldest thing I own is perhaps an oil painting my grandmother would have painted in the early 1900's. I can recall my mother once saying she recalled sitting in her highchair, as a very young child, watching her mother paint it.

My great-grandfather was supposed to marry a woman who he wound up rejecting for the woman who became my great-grandmother. She made a tiny wedding dress from the gown she planned to wear and made a doll to fit it. I have that doll with the dress. It's about 115 years old and is very fragile. Someday it will go to one of my nieces.

I remembered something else that is older than my curious George doll. My Mom gave me her class ring from the 1960`s.

An old, Oyster blender from the 70s that my Mom had. I found another one at a garage sale and grabbed it for parts. This thing will chop up anything unlike these newer blenders which have rounded blades and won't chop ice.
