I have been taking tango classes for quite some time. Last September, I signed up for additional classes in a different school. Part of the course is preparing for a show in which students from all types of dance will participate. I have rehearsed and helped create the choreography but I never had the intention to be on stage. On the other hand, I have always known ...
Yesterday somebody brought the news that they will need some small surgery and he won't be able to attend. That brought the understudies into the picture ... in short: I will be on stage for approximately 300 people. I'm thrilled and terrified at the same time ... do one thing every day that scares you, I guess. |

That sounds great! Once you are on stage doing your routine, you won’t think about the audience, you’ll be focused on your dancing. Have a blast!

How exciting. Glad you have a great partner. Tango is one of my favorite ballroom dances though did it as mostly a beginner, our ballroom dance group put together a performance (10 of us) I had life get in the way of doing the performance.....but enjoyed the practice to that point. Know you will shine in your performance & the audience will be non-existent until your dance is complete. Enjoy

It was great. Everything went smoothly. I really enjoyed the applause - of course - but the show itself too.
What's more: I have an ICD and haven't stood in front of the mirror without a t-shirt for two years. At some point I started to agonize about the audience noticing nothing but the bump (white shirt, spotlights, you get the picture). After the show when I changed clothes, I decided to watch my upper body in the mirror. It felt OK. This must be an even more important step than the show itself. For the record: there we're 670 people in the audience plus 120 dancers who we're on stage before the break. |
