Today, July 1, is Canada day. So happy Canada day to my fellow Canadians. I'm going to watch the fireworks tonight.

Happy Canada Day!
Splitimage, please excuse my ignorance. Is Canada Day also independence day like the US? My daddy's side of the family was from Canada. Can I celebrate too? |

@lizardlady Canada day commemorates the founding of the Dominion of Canada, in 1867. Fun little known fact, we didn't obtain full legal independence from England until 1983 when we repatriated our constitution. That's when the name of the holiday was changed to Canada Day.

I remember my Canadian cousins calling it Dominion Day when we visited in the 50's and 60's when we were growing up. It was a good time for us to visit since we all had national holidays. We often stayed overnight. My mother and her sister lived in michigan, their brothers lived in canada. My dad also had many cousins in canada.

Una, do your relatives live in "the mitten" or the UP? My daddy was born and raised on a farm in the UP. Mom was born and raised in Detroit. I was born in a Detroit suburb.
