So I broke my main pair of glasses a few months ago, and have been wearing my backup pair while I save up the money to buy a new pair. The backup pair broke last night, leaving me with no glasses. This is a bit critical as I can barely see without them. So out came the duct tape, and I taped my main pair together - they'd snapped in two on the nose bridge. Not a perfect solution but it'll work.
I'll call my Dr's office tomorrow and get them to email me a new prescription and I'll get into lenscrafters Tues. or Wed. at the latest. I really hope they'll be able to expedite the order. I'll have to ask my brother for money to cover half the cost, and I'll pay him back over the next several months. So of course now I look like a dork. I wouldn't care except I have to do a presentation at my psych hospital tomorrow afternoon. I've been wearing glasses since I was 7 and I'm 55 now, and this is the first time I've been caught with no glasses, so I guess maybe I was due. |

Oh that is stressful it’s awful struggling to see.
Would it help to buy those cheap generic pairs you can buy off the shelf just as an emergency? That’s what I did when I was stuck without glasses for a short time. |

I used to get mine at Lenscrafters. They always had a good interest free lending for paying them off. Now I go to a local eye dr in town. Ugh, got those titanium frameless glassed last time. They have survived for years through branches on brush I hsve been clearing even knocking them off my face. I now use Care Credit for vet bills & glasses & things like that. Depending on the company you get 6 mo - a year interest free over $200 (US $). It comes in handy when I don't have the cash but can budget.
You made me chuckle about breaking glasses. I never had broken mine either but I fell asleep at my computer desk late one night & managed to crash my head into the desk & break my glasses. Ok, I was laughing so hard after that. Then I realized I needed to repair my glasses till I could get new ones. Here in the US, if the prescription is over a year old they make you come in & get a new prescription. __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
Fortunately, I was able to find an affordable solution. I went into Lenscrafters and found out they still had the exact same frames as my main pair in stock. So they were able to simply put my existing lenses into new frames, and I could afford it. the lenses are the expensive part for me. So now I'm on track with my original plan to get a new pair in July or August, once I've saved up the money. |
