To leave my 10 and barely 8 year old nephews home alone this morning for a few hours? I wasn't allowed to stay home alone until I was 11 and that was 20 years ago.
I just don't understand my sister sometimes. __________________ I'm Blue |

It seems young to me to leave an 8 year old under a 10 year old's responsibility, but I think it depends on how responsible your nephews are. I did leave my daughter home for brief periods when she was 10 and 11 though she is an only child and didn't have a younger sibling to watch. Once she was 12 and up, I left her alone for longer periods.
I am pretty sure my mom left me home alone when I was in 4th grade, so I was probably 10 then too. She didn't leave my younger sisters home with me until I was 11 or 12. I was a pretty responsible, follow-the-rules type kid, and so were my sisters. __________________ Bipolar 1, PTSD, anorexia, panic disorder, ADHD Seroquel, Cymbalta, propanolol, buspirone, Trazodone, gabapentin, lamotrigine, hydroxyzine, There's a crack in everything. It does depend on the kid, but I think 8 is too young. My kid is 10 and fully capable of being by herself but I still wouldn’t let her lol. I’d say early teen yrs is a more acceptable age to be alone.

Really depends on the kids. When I was 9 I stayed home for the entire weekend. But I was a super responsible kid with a dog and a horse to care for. I knew how to cook for years. A few hours is nothing.

The 8 year old did have a slight medical emergency and texted my sister a bunch of times and said he needed a breathing treatment. Luckily the 10 year old figured out how to set it up for him.
My almost 2 year old niece was at my house. __________________ I'm Blue |

I was on the fence until I read your last reply MD. If one of the kids texted mom to say they were having trouble breathing it was irresponsible of your sister to leave them alone.
