I read a legit nuclear war would kill 300 people directly and a billion from starvation

What are the chances of that sort of thing happening soon?

MD, in an actual nuclear war, meaning at least two countries lobbing nukes at each other WAY more than 300 people would die. I just looked up number of deaths following the bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki - between 150,000 and 246,000

There is a site near me that is almost guaranteed to be targeted in a nuclear war. I plan to get as close to that location as I can before the bombs drop. I would just as soon go out in the first wave.

As for how likely it is to happen... speaking as someone who grew up in the peak of the Cold War with regular drills in school what to do if bombs were coming, worrying about it happening leads to madness.

I haven't seen the news today. Did something happen leading to your fear?

Maybe this is better for the current events section. But there was some stuff going on in the middle east and I think the united states supplied some stuff.

I'm not 100% positive though. Something about a sub missle

I meant 300 thousand

My mom grew up during the cold war and hardly anything scares her to the point I had to tell her to take covid more seriously.

Hey Mountain. If you look at how long the Cold War - the standoff between the great nuclear super powers of Russia (or former USSR) and the US - went on for (decades), without any nukes being fired, then I think the chances of nuclear war involving the US are very slim, at least in our lifetimes. Fear not, friend.🙏
