My area looks like we are going to get some wind and rain. Numbers they are throwing around sound like what we get for summer thunderstorms. The poor panhandle is going to get hammered again though.

My concession to hurricane prep was to take down my bird feeders and set my orchids in hanging baskets on the ground.

Glad for that and happy to see this post. Was hearing some alarming things on the news about severity and wanted to make sure you weren't somehow stuck in a bad place.

Mountaindewed mentioned Waffle House in a post earlier. Figured it was just a joke. Turns out it's a thing. I take it you saw the Wiki entry U? I had to go Google Waffle House Index. Still chuckling.

"The Waffle House Index is a metric named after the ubiquitous Southern US restaurant chain Waffle House known for its 24-hour, 365-day service. Since this restaurant always remains open, it has given rise to an informal but useful metric to determine the severity of a storm and the likely scale of assistance required for disaster recovery.[1][2] It was coined by former administrator Craig Fugate of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).[3] The metric is unofficially[1][4] used by FEMA to inform disaster response.[5][6]"

I like folk culture oddities like this. I'm still curious so now I have to go read up on the chain. Maybe check out their menu!
