Mountaindewed mentioned Waffle House in a post earlier. Figured it was just a joke. Turns out it's a thing. I take it you saw the Wiki entry U? I had to go Google Waffle House Index. Still chuckling.

I'm okay. My area got a lot of flooding from storm surge, but I am a good distance from the coast. Add to that my property is on a ridge. I joke that if my place floods the entire state will be under water.

So suppose the Waffle House closes a branch due to something like a broken water main or HVAC, and it just happens to be in the path of a storm. So FEMA takes note and increases the threat level as a result. So then Waffle House says, "Gee Whiz, FEMA is saying it's a worse storm, so maybe we should close some locations." Then FEMA increases threat level yet again. And so on and so on. Eventually the entire country may be bracing for a storm that packs the punch of an atomic bomb!

Tennessee is far from the coast, but it got a huge flooding problem. Anyway, glad you're okay!

Flooding in Florida was primarily due to storm surge. Flooding in other states is from rainfall.

The flooding & the power in it is scary to just wash away bridges & houses & whole towns.

Our Ky River flooded a few years ago. I walked down to see just how bad it was as it was only a few feet below the road when flooded. It was devistating but nothing like if a dam had failed

I saw video of the wider damage for the first time this evening. People and communities do recover from this stuff but man...when viewing the immediate aftermath it's hard to see how. It takes a while but it gets done. You can still see wreckage from Katrina on Google streetview. Heartening are the before and after photos from Japan's tidal wave of 2011. Recovery will come.
