Not to sound like a pessimist, but I have low hopes of the power coming on any time soon based on experience. Most of my county is without power. Areas with more population get priority. Heck,, there we're 3 MILLION people without power. Those of us in the boonies know we are going to be last.

I am staying with my friend until Saturday. Now that I know my house is okay the pressure to go check on it is gone. He can use my help with clean up here.

Staying an extra day also mean an extra day with electricity and water. Anticipating the power might be out for awhile I checked on line last night. There are a few, very few, hotel rooms available. I'll get a room for a few days if the power stays out.

I said this before and will keep saying it. I am so grateful to have gotten through with so little damage. So many others lost everything, including their lives. Impact on me seems so minimal in comparison.

Once more, thank you to everyone for your support.

So pleased to know you and your furbabies are okay Liz. After all the predictions it seems like Helene did more damage than Milton thanks goodness.

Thanks Possum.

I think Helene did more damage because of the track it took over multiple states. In comparison Milton "just" plowed across Florida. My access to news has been limited, but it seems the area where Milton made landfall were hit hard. Milton came ashore very close to where Ian hit a couple of years ago. Those folks were still recovering from Ian.

I am still at my friend's house. Leaving for home tomorrow. Since the neighbors gave me an update I don't see a reason to hurry home. Power company finally has an estimate when power will be restored - midnight Thursday. Not excited to rush home to no power and no wayer.

I don't blame you. When we had that major earthquake here in 2010, we lost power for six days. Our water was also intermittent. It was no fun.

Although we don't talk the way we used to or as often, I still thought about you with these back to back storms. Nature is cruel.

We are still evacuated. Still no power/water at home. My friend persuaded me to stay here rather than go home because of that.

Wise choice. It is miserable to deal with no electric & no water unless you absolutely have to

Love the outage map!

Public service announcement: If you enroll your address and report it as out, they will send you emails or text messages when it comes back on. My power goes out pretty frequently, like at least a couple of times a year, often for days, so yeah i am definitely a member of the club.

Oh yeah: WELCOME HOME, KIDDIES!!!

So glad you can head home now.
I have an app for my power company & can report. It provides outage inf. For Helene they gave us updates 2 times a day on FB. Our community is small but community happenings are connected on FB which is a good use of it

Una, I am already enrolled in my power company's program. I normally get emails, phone calls and texts about outages. Can also report an outage online. They sent one massive blast when the storm hit. No individual messages since. I suspect it was just too much to do individual given the size of the outage. More then 40K in my county alone. They did a great job of posting updates on the outage page, plus did a daily blog. I've seen a bunch of people on line complaining a) that their power was still out (first one of those was on FRIDAY!!!!) and/or b) that the linemen are not heros who are horribly over paid. The second one burns my backside. Try living with no power and no water for a week. People who can return those to me are heros who earn every day penny they get paid!

Eskie, I HATE Facebook, but using it to stay connected in an emergency is a great idea.

Well folks, time to toss my stuff in the truck and go home. Much as appreciate my friends giving me a place to stay I'm anxious to get home.

Much thanks to everyone here for the support.

Yeah thats a heck of a cc!

Living without lights and water really makes me question... my humanity? My life choices? It is humbling. And ive just lost power. Ive never been thru a disaster knock on wood. At this point i would just lie down and stop.

I wonder if i can get healthy and strong enough again to do some good.

Everyone here appreciates our linemen. They actually went into detail why some got power before others even across the road. My friends were the last 12 to get power back on in our area because they repair the big issues first because they block power on to the smaller issues.

Lol....the bad spring storm we had, I got power back on in a day but my intefner stayed down. Come to find out I was one of 5 in my area that gets feed from the tower that still had power out in its area. Then the tower required a guy from the company to go UP the tower & reset the equipment. Rural living does have its challenges. I have been having power surges all week around 10am. If it keeps up I will report the problem. I only have one clock & my wifi that really is botherer but it is usually a precurser of a bigger outage in the future if not taken care of

Just read that the entire island of Cuba is without power. Not easy stuff for a country already struggling hard. Puerto Rico is still trying to get back on her feet from those 2 storms in 2017. Been thinking a lot about this stuff lately. North American power grids are pretty stable and generally well-maintained compared to those of most countries. We're pretty fortunate that the resources are there to get things back up. Not an easy job. Usually power guys are pretty good with sharing resources. It's like anything in an emergency...workers from other parts of the NA continent are made available to help out. Be it power outages, forest fires etc. Canadian crews are in Florida right now helping out as well as crews from across the US. People being able to pull together in the face of things like this is a good resource to have. Not all are so fortunate. Hugs to you LL.

Mar Dhea, I did not know that about Cuba. Have to admit I have not been paying much attention to the news except for hurricane related. The entire power grid is down! The poor people there. I used to work with a lady from the Dominican Republic. She told me the biggest problem with disasters on islands is 5hat there are few outside resources to call on. You are right. Power crews from across the country are here to get us back on line. Bless each and every one of them.

Here on the home front there's bad news/good news. A neighbor went up and checked my roof for me. Probably half the shingles are missing from my roof. Good news is FEMA will come cover the entire roof with a blue tarp for FREE! That will give me time to find a company to replace the roof.

When I first got home I told a friend I would be doing outdoor clean up for weeks. It's probably going to be months. It took me an entire day just to get a dead "limb" moved away from the front of my house. Actually it was not a limb. It was the top of the tree!

The roofer I had do my original roof then my hail damaged roof here in Ky spent a whole winter down in Fl repairing roofs after one of your huge disasters. He got my house sealed up tight from above with an outstanding job including new gutters & gutter guards. Who knows , he may be back down in Fl again this winter. Haven't heard
