Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! For tomorrow's dinner i will be bringing Beaver Tails (basically slabs of dough with sugar and cinnamon on them), pemmican (a calorie-dense Indigenous staple used to sustain travelers made by pounding tallow and dried berries into sheets), and Nutella hot chocolate (a favorite of mine).
Unaluna, how do you know so much about Canada eh? |

Jane, i live NORTH of Canada! A part of michigan is north of part of canada, anyway! I have lots of italian relatives who emigrated to Canada, mostly Ontario, but also Alberta. Ive been to Montreal a couple of times, Niagara Falls, Stratford, and i like to read about mountain climbing Mt Ranier and Denali, and of course we used to watch Hockey Night in Canada when i was growing up.
Also i used to get canadian tv when my apartment bldg still had an external antenna. There was a show, i think it was called Being Erica - just so good. And the daytime "living" show (design, decor, cooking, fashion) with the gay partners, but then the dark haired one died? Loved those guys. Steven and Chris? |

Did I hear Nanaimo bars? I'll be there.
I've eaten Nanaimo bars all my life. I live about 60 miles away from their namesake, so they are very dear to my heart. Every bakery, at least on Vancouver Island, sells Nanaimo bars, but homemade ones are the best. I'll bring the butter tarts. |

I'll bring maple sugar candy. Haven't I see that you pour maple syrup on snow to make candy (I know the weather may not cooperate so if it doesn't we'll send store-bought maple sugar maple leaves.

Ohh, I'm in. Happy Canadian Thanksgiving. I'll bring some more butter tarts, baked according to my grandma's recipe and the mixes to make Virgiin Caesars.

I don't know anything about traditional Canadian Thanksgiving cuisine, but if I leave now I can make it to the border within two hours with a venison roast!

Jane, that brought up so many good memories for me. And thanks for the designation. Funny, i started out doing this for you, and it ended up meaning more to me than one would ever expect.

Ooo, I slept though the noon bell. Any foood left? I’ve always wanted to try poutine. And those beaver tails sounded delicious too.

Thanks to all who participated and a special thanks to Unaluna for starting us off. It's a great idea. Made the day easier to bear. I hope we'll have one for Christmas too!
