Ignoring the Time Change?

For years my wife and I don't bother to turn the clocks back when Daylight Savings Time (DST) ends. We're older and don't bother much with cellphones (which seem to shift automatically). Does anyone else do this?

Our pets don't know about clocks -- they're on "belly time."

I have a sleep disorder. I don't use an alarm clock -- I wake up at 5:15am (now 4:15am) regardless. And I yawn uncontrollably at about 9pm (now 8pm)

My work does flex time, and I tend to get in late, so being an hour early benefits everyone.

We don't watch specials on TV that need to be watched at a certain time.

The one annoying thing is that meetings that take place in the evening drag into bedtime or at least "yawn time."

Despite all the "advantages" I still like how most of the world changes the clocks.

My 2nd H used to tease my dad about how my dad ate lunch at noon - never missed it. If for some reason he ate breakfast late, didnt matter, still had lunch at noon. OTOH, my dad marveled at how the H could eat a whole watermelon by himself, especially after doing an hours-long bicycle ride. Neither of them were overweight.

I love your pets are on "belly time." So are mine. They don't seem to be upset eating "early" in the fall, but wonder why I am so mean in the spring.

I don’t change analog clocks. I have one in each room. Right now the one in a bedroom is an hour ahead but the other ones are all right, then they’ll be wrong in the spring. Lol But if I change them I’d be confused because I know to add or subtract one hour. I guess I like mental challenge

I do need to know what time it is for work purposes. My husband and I both have jobs that don’t allow any kind of flexibility.

Same here Divine. I have been having a lot of online meeting with the project manager and editors I deal with in the U.S. So, I need to be sure I show up to them. My husband also has online court hearings to attend.

It's weird here. For part of the year, it's the same time here as the East Coast US. However, our daylight savings time is really short, it changes each year but is usually from some time in May to some time in September. Also, I'm in the Southern Hemisphere, so the seasons are reversed. From September, I was one hour ahead of my team in Miami. Now they changed their clocks back, so I am two hours ahead. My phone and computer often get confused, since it's not consistent, so they often try to change the time when they shouldn't. There was also a year where the clocks weren't changed back, so we ended up being in the same time zone as Argentina and parts of Brazil for part of the year, even though we're farther west.

Omg it will keep you on your toes to keep the time straight!

I have close family in UK and they do time saving thing but they don’t change it on the same weekend as us so I never know what is the time difference. Normally it’s 5 hours but sometimes it is not

I wish we just stop doing it

There's this song by Manu Chao called "Me gustas tú" where one of the main lines is "Qué horas son mi corazón" (What time is it my love?) I am always reminded of it when we have our weird time changes.

Tonight Chile plays Peru in Lima for World Cup qualifying. The game is at 8:30 in Lima and 10:30 here. We are not that far east of Lima, there shouldn't be a two hour difference, but there is. We'll se if I'm awake enouth to watch.

I don't even understand what the advantages for here are. Is there a huge difference if it's dark 4pm-7am or 5pm-8am?

I wish we’d ditch British Summer Time (BST) here in the UK. I can cope with the clocks going back in October, but going forward in Spring really seems to take some adjusting to for me.

I think the issue for us is that for the far north of the UK it would mean significantly darker mornings, at a time when people are taking kids to school and rushing to work.

Somewhere along the line there’s always one clock I miss :-(

I think Standard Time helps students who have to catch the school bus in the morning. But then at some point, DST means having an extra hour of light in the evening, perhaps for after school activity.

If that's why, then why not make it seem like that's the real reason and do two hours so it's actually light out when the bus comes?

Yes, exactly! We should revert to "Farmer's Time," which is that the day begins when the sun rises and ends when it sets. Cellphones can be programmed to do this.

What a darling song! I hear French phrases in the chorus.

I will be watching the Mike Tyson Jake Paul boxing match at 8 pm ET. A 58 yr old boxing superstar from the 1980s taking on a 27 yr old 2020s youtube influencer. Tysons matches were usually very very short - blink and you missed it short.
