Do you wear contacts or glasses or both or neither?

I wore glasses for the longest time until 2020 and then I felt like they made me look odd. So I finally have an eye exam to get contacts tommorow. I always said I'd never wear them because they freaked me out but sometimes you have to weigh your options.

I wear glasses. Have since I was a kid. Never wore contacts. Working with the horses I was afraid of getting dust in my eyes while wearing contacts. Have also been told by professionals that my prescription would be difficult to correct with contacts, that I would not be happy with the results.

I'm supposed to wear glasses, but I don't like how they feel on my face. And they always start falling off my face when I'm sweating, and they don't fit under goggles in winter, so I wear them pretty much just if I'm driving (and sometimes not even then ). I want to try out contacts, but they seem expensive (I was in a program for low income/homeless individuals in community mental health where my glasses were free so I'm having trouble admitting I don't appreciate them as much as I thought I would, although I will say it is nice being able to see especially while driving at dawn when you never know when a moose, deer, bear, coyote, martin, fox, whatever is going to sprint in front of you...happened to me a few weeks ago!!)

(I don't think my ADHD meds have really kicked in yet)

but I just like the idea of not putting goggles over glasses AND seeing well. I have a pretty significant astigmatism (which is cool driving at night through cities around christmas time during rain as a passenger but not as the driver) so I would need the toric lenses. I feel like those would cost more, but idk, haven't looked into it at all.

i've worn glasses practically all my life- started wearing them when I was 7, so I don't really think about them now, they're just part of my life. I did try wearing contacts for a brief period years ago, but I have dry eyes so thay became uncomfortable very quickly..

Glasses. Wouldn’t wear contacts.

I have a weakness for nice frames. I am very particular how my glasses look. They are kind of part of my wardrobe now. I admit good frames are pricey and insurance only covers a tiny bit
Thanks for this!

I’m prescribed glasses and I have a pair but almost never wear them. I’m near sighted so I anything at a distance is blurry. I don’t drive though so it’s not like I’m a danger or anything by not wearing them. I’ve just struggled to get into the habit of wearing them. I really want to. I start then I forget about them for months and the cycle repeats over and over. Never able to establish the habit. I’m hoping going to get an eye exam next month and get new glasses and maybe that will motivate me to wear them more. Mine are 2-3 years old now I think. I’m due for an exam. I’m afraid of contacts though I wish I could wear them. I’m afraid of putting anything on my eyes. That would be a lot more convenient though than glasses.

I’ve had both. When I was in my 50’s I needed them. I started with contacts. As I needed both distance and near help, one contact was for distance and the other for near. The eyes are a wonder-us thing. They worked together to provide 20/20. I found contacts cheaper than glasses and wore them for about ten years. Then it just got too difficult to see the contacts. I switched to glasses. I use an online site and get all kinds of nice glasses. They do take some getting used to, but I need them until I have cataract surgery.

I've been prescribed glasses. I can't see things great that are a distance away from me. I just never wear them though. I don't need them too much because my vision isn't THAT bad. I probably should wear them when driving, but I just don't.

@splitimage we are glasses twins! Started wearing at the same age! And, yep, they are just part of life.

I wore contacts for years. I was extremely nearsighted, like minus -10, -11 in contact lenses. I wore contact lenses since the 5th grade up until I was around 42, 43. I had cataract surgery 3 or 4 years ago, and the results were awesome! I'm a bit farsighted now, so I do use drugstore glasses for reading though I can get by without them in a pinch. The rest of the time, no corrective vision is necessary! It is so liberating! I especially love being able to just get up, go about my day being able to see, no need to worry about contact lenses drying out and popping out when I'm driving. I think cataract surgery is the best thing that has ever happened to my vision!

I had trouble with the contacts so I need to come back in 2 weeks for a sturdier pair. I also was told I had cataracts and the eye doctor was pretty freaked out because of my age. So now I have to get my eyes dilated at the same appointment and get another exam to figure out what kinda cataracts I have.

Fun day. I was hoping to walk out with a trial pair of contacts not a rare diagnosis.

A friend of mine had cataracts young too, it’s not common but not super rare either. Hopefully you can have surgery, that has a good success rate. You might be like Blueberry and see better than ever!

I wear glasses, vari-focals with a weak distance lens. Saves taking them on and off though. I’d ideally like lens replacement surgery but it’s expensive.
Thanks for this!

When I was 43, I had cataract surgery. The cataracts had been present a few years before, just not so much that the insurance would pay for the surgery. There is some literatures suggesting APs can cause cataracts and/or hasten it. Thankfully cataracts cannot grow and on the replacement lenses.
Even that was considered a young age for cataract surgery. I have a niece who was born with congenital cataracts (no other health problems aside from being small for her age). My sister was told that my niece will need cataract surgery y the time she is in her 20s.

Yeah thats what my eye doctor is wondering. If I was born with it then its not a big deal but if they are developing all of a sudden thats a cause for concern. I had to call my old eye doctor place to get my records from 2014, 2018, and 2020. Which also meant I had to out myself to this new place.

I know I wasn't born with them because I got my first eye exam when I was 7 and I've had a ton of exams since. In 2020 they just said I had dry eyes.

I have cataracts. Doctor said it’s just age related.

Mountain go you know if yours developed gradually?

I don't know. No one ever told me I had them before so I'm guessing they did.

I do not wear glasses yet, even though I have a prescription. I only occasionally wear prescription reading glasses when I read small print text. But I observe women around me wearing nice frames, thinking about what I will choose to wear when the time comes to wear glasses all the time. Frames make such a huge difference.

My eye doctor got my previous charts and my cataracts are developing gradually, so I wasn't born with them. I go in next week to get my eyes dilated and figure out if there an issue.

I did get my contacts. I tried putting them in on Friday and gave up. Today I got the right one in right away. The left one took 15 minutes. Then I wore it for a bit and it felt weird so I took it out and got it back in after just 2 trys.

I've had them in for about 3 hours and I can see amazing and I'm not nauseated or dealing with headaches. I can feel them which will get some taking used to
