As a kid there was " Go outside and play ". and to say ,," There's nothing to do ". That Started ,, the hardest answer to find a solution to.
And of course ,,, the Parents would say " Find something to do " .>>>>>>. I use to think ,, even at that young age , ,,,,,,,,, >> But I don't know how ???? .

Funny thing , there were no video Games : ....

There was , black and white T V ,,,about 4 channels . Cartoons were Saturday morning ,, and Walt Disney World on Sunday eves , with popcorn and soda pop .

But find something to do the rest of the week ? I'm just a kid !!!

So make some peanutbutter crackers , put Kool-Aid in a thermos and off on some adventure to see what the day may bring .
I lived away from the city , and only knew the farmlands and woods of the upper mid - west .

So my world went on hikes and found that the mind was entertainment enough .

What does that mean ? [ I knew about shooting rifles ] . so did this mean DEAD ? .

Grown - ups cry ,,,,and a funeral is shown on that black and white T V .....,all stations I think ,, [ was a long time ago ].

A little boy stands there ,, not much younger than I ,, and as a horse drawn wagon passes He >> SALUTES .... .
And a little older girl ,, still but a child ,, moves nervously around at her Mothers' side .

Typical sibling squabbles , Birthdays , Holidays , Costume parties ,,,, And Mom and I would the next day after her and my dad had , had a get together with their friends ,,,, Sit and she would have a Bloody Mary ,, while I had the same [ without the vodka ] .
And I would get to sit and eat smoked oysters , pickled herring , black and green olives . Assorted cheeses and RITZ crackers .

You always did your chores and saved your weekly allowance ,, for once a month you went into the little town where the Bank was and Five & Dime store.
Reason I mention these two places is because you could choose .... Bank and deposit your money ,,,,,, or store to buy something . I liked to assemble model cars and airplanes .

I still have a horrible memory of when I was 4 and my father left me for the day with a friend of the family and she only had boys and they were all older and in school like my brothers. When we got there she was busy in the kitchen so she had me go out to "play" in the backyard which was a manicured lawn with two or three 50+ foot trees in it. Not a stick to play with (my brother and I use to build little houses and villages and things in the grass with twigs and sticks, dried grass, leaves, etc. but there was nothing in this yard, absolutely nothing). I remember thinking, even at that age of 4, how hopeless I felt and impossible to figure out what to "do". Not like I was older and had anything stored in my imagination or memory banks either.

i did too! that was fun times tried to do a clipper ship once... those are tuff... lot of detail..... saw some really nice ones..... were you able to attend any of the shows?

School so far has been learning to read and write and learn new stuff.
Now ,, wow ,, insect and butterfly collections .

Learning about the things around me like , how to tend a garden [ I knew ],,,fishing and cleaning and cooking fish ,, already knew that >>> building a fire ,, [ lol = matches ] hehe.
Now Junior High . ????? . Ya mean ya have to act like an adult ? ,, gotta have a crush on someone of the opposite sex .... All that French kissing in the 6th grade had left your tongue feeling like it was a half inch longer .
But now there were cool kids , straights and jocks ...
I was made fun of by the straights for a minute,,, When you finish tests quickly though and then start to disrupt the class and distract the rest of these so called brainiacs <<<LOL. hehe ,, got them back .

But heck ,, I was a get high partying jock ,, Didn't have a steady girlfriend yet ,,, just lots of girls that were friends .
And sometimes we would sneak out at night ,,, and then have to sneak them back in through the bedroom window <<< .

That finishes up the generation gap thing ,,,. And it still surprises me when a teen says ,,"But you don't understand " .

Oh Really ,,,, I probabley don't then . For My generation used their minds and friends and the things around us to make for enjoyment ,,, Ya see ,,, We didn't grow up with video games and computers yo interact with ... For we had each other.

hmm. methinks the kids who cant find nothing to do are a lil silly. yes. times have changed. which means were less free to do stuff. corky u told me once about having a fire with a bunch of friends in the evening or something with mates. id love to do that, and probly would do it. but nowadays if u did that theyd castrate you. even if u were a girl. but, that said. most of them kids moan aboutnot having something to do. they just sit inside and play comp games all day. most i have no sympathy for, cuz down the road, a few feet away is other kids down your street/road. hang out with them or explore. i loved to explore. and i had to amuse myself on my own. cuz i live in the middle of nowhere lol. one other kid to hang with, who i didnt get on with much lol after a while. but u no. i got out. i made hideouts with my bros out of straw bales. we climbed them bale mountains, went fo walks, made dens up the little place we called the park, which wasnt really a park, just a bunch of trees surrounding a bomb crater. and my all time favourite, swimming in the bombcrater pond. fun. them nazis had no idea how much fun them craters they made with them high explosive bombs would give us lol.
water fights with water pistols, spray bottles, empty window cleaner bottles with water in.fun. kids these days have no imagination. lol i remember one time mom got annoyed for weeks cuz the carpet cleaner wasnt working at all. i told her thats cuz thats just water from left over water fight mom...
wow im babbling. but its fun. no need to play comp games all day. but that was when my bros and i got along... got to the point where if i did anything they dont like, one insults me really harshly actually,,, and the other blackmails me.but oh well. the kid we played with... well i kinda slowly felt more uncomfy round him dunno y, and he moved to private school. so hes hardly there. well. noone at all now. cept u guys lol. in a way i miss being a youngin. im still a kid, but not what i was. aye tho. nvm.

Naw Run ,,, Never tried a ship ...LOL. I knew my lmitations and patience . hehe. I think the hardest one I did was an old Rolls Royce convertable Model. .

i once spent my whole sunday cleaning out my sisters drawers and such. call me crazy
but anyway i have 3 sisters and so when we were all younger we always found something to do together whether it was get into my moms make up and do eachothers hair and makeup or play house with my baby sister or go outside and play "adventure" and go through the woods and pretend we discovered a new world or we would go in the pool and pretend we were mermaids or that we were stranded in the middle of the ocean. Being bored was rare at my house when i was a kid because there was always something to do. We had a whole neighborhood of kids and there was a dog kennel down the street so we would go visit the new puppies or we would have lemmonade sales or car washes. Wow i miss those days. i remember once my neighboors and i had a camp out in my backyard and had a fire and everything with marshmallows and chocolate and one night my neighbors and i slept in their dads car because her mom was going to take us to the waterpark the next day. we went through eachothers closets and played models or we used chalk on the drive way or made playdough pizzas. We made home made crayons out of the broken ones and my mom taught us how to sew and we tried to make clothes for our dolls. Once my mom through a tea party for all the girls in my neighborhood and we all got dressed up. Oh and on fridays the adults got together for book club and we spied on them and tried to steal the cookies haha i miss being a kid

And ya mean ,,,, if you had a camp fire you would be considered off your rocker ??? Or is it against the law ?

And that other thing that you could do ,,, take a shovel and go dig around the swimming hole ... The bomb had to be aiming at something ?

wow why did i miss this post

i used to spen time either hanging out with a load of boys or on my own but i was never bored

when we lived in a field in a small caravan i used to walk to either of the next villages as where we were was on faming land kids wouldnt walk two mile now and i wasnt even eight at the time

so i agree but us parents say dont go far as there is so much evil out there

saying that our son walked with a friend who is a girl with there skateboards to another village about five miles away today

Different place and different times For Sure ,,.
Mean is the way as to some peeps demeanor , I agree.

But forever and a Day ,, I believe there is strength in numbers , and still the simple enjoyments of our time .. Young and Old can be made ,, with a bit of imagination or ,, just sitting and haveing discussions ,, that allow for another person to know us as we stand . Not on our differences ,, but our sameness. .

I do all sorts of things with my kids. I'm an adult, and I STILL play! LOL It's fun!

I felt the exact same way as a kid. As an adult I tried to convey that to my therapist and he said, "Try to imagine what you would like to do and try it."

I actually tried a few things, like roller skating and loved it. I was about to try wind surfing, but instead I met my husband and he ruined my life.
